They can't handle an outbreak in a prison--none of the prison staff would show up for work, so how would prisoners get fed etc.? By the way, there were a number of reports before this announcement that the virus was in several prisons. So now they are unleashing some portion of the freed prisoners who are already infected on the country. |

He was critically ill with viral pneumonia. Maybe they did a CT scan because there's a way to presumptively diagnose CV from that. https://www.mountsinai.org/about/newsroom/2020/mount-sinai-physicians-the-first-in-us-analyzing-lung-disease-in-coronavirus-patients-from-china-press-release |

Does anyone know how long you have a fever for Covid-19? I had lower grade fever/some vomiting for 12 hours on Monday night and now I feel better but still have lingering cough and congestion. I know there hasn’t been any cases in NOVA yet but I’m sure we just aren’t testing enough. I’m an asthmatic so I messaged my doc but I’m sure I’ll just have to wait and see if my chest gets worse.
Let me know if anyone has read how long fever persists with COVID-19. Thanks. |
It's not really confusing at all. All medical professionals know that coronavirus is circulating. If someone presents with severe respiratory disease/pnuemonia, and isn't positive for the flu, they will suspect coronavirus. |
You can test positive for both flu and covid though. |

| Regarding the NY guy with Corona-why on earth would you ask or even allow your neighbor to drive you to the ER if you thought for a second you had something contagious? Spend the money and call and ambulance. If this happened in a place where people struggle financially I would understand, but a rich guy can't go in an ambulance? They have to save money and potentially harm their neighbor? |
I'm not sure you understand how emergency services work. |
I doubt he thought it was corona virus, as he had no known risk factors. He’s an Orthodox Jew, so part of a community known for taking care of each other. I’m sure they made the best decision they could with the information they had at the time. Everything is easy to second-guess in hindsight. |
| Please correct me if I’m wrong but if we are only testing those with severe pneumonia (and those who have traveled to hotspot) in the United States won’t our death rate of Covid-19 be really high in this country (and inaccurate). |

Jesus! People who are arguing about how contagious this is....
China quarantine many cities for over 6 weeks and they STILL have cases there. I think you can presume it spreads easily. |
Yes, that's why our death rate is currently higher than just about any country other than San Marino (which, to be fair, only has had one death, out of 16 total infections). Because we haven't been testing, our numbers are pretty meaningless, except to try to extrapolate backwards (e.g., because we've had 9 deaths, and most Western countries are seeing about a 1-2% infection rate, we probably have at least 450-900 folks infected. But if you assume that we've had more deaths that were wrongly attributed to other reasons and not tested, than it would be higher. South Korea is testing a lot and is at about 6% fatality rate, and Italy is at about 3.5%, so it's probably higher still. My guess is that we've got thousands infected, maybe tens of thousands, at this point. But who really knows. |
Gosh the over 60 crowd is screwed. |
