Choosing your college based on mascot

Anonymous
I love this thread - every time our daughters have a new favorite animal (They are all under 10 years old) we figure out what college they should go to based on it. Many long car trips have been spent suggesting colleges based the mascots and colors.

Currently we have an elephant lover headed to Alabama, A puppy fanatic going to Georgetown and a future LSU tiger- although that was strongly swayed by LSU also having a lazy river on campus

If you have no idea where you want to go, is it silly to base your choice on mascot?

If so, who has the best mascot?

Given that we live in MD- we are thinking terrapins are the best.

Wrong or right? Why?

My favorites after touring many schools:

1) Jumbo the Elephant (Tufts)
2) Handsome Dan the Bulldog (Yale)
3) Oswold the Tiger (Oxy)

The only answer
GO BLUE

HAIL TO THE VICTORS VALIANT!
Go Wolverines

Although they don't really use the wolverine much as an actual mascot. No costumed mascot, and definitely no live wolverine! Is there even any wolverine merch? It's mostly the block M.

DD would be following her heart to all the horse schools. I personally think Musty the Mustang at Cal Poly best reflects her personality. I'm a beaver fan...worked out well for me.

I have always loved that UCSC picked a banana slug. But I'm a marine biology geek so....

No, not a bad idea at all. Graduated high school with a kid who wanted to be the Notre Dame Leprechaun. Got admitted to the school and served as the mascot for 3 years.

Banana slugs live in the Santa Cruz redwood forests. The University is literally in a the forest up the hill/mountain. The slugs really are bright yellow and delight kids so it’s popular with camps, field trips etc.

Other local SC wildlife are the sea otters ( one who was stealing surfboards), mountain lions, great white sharks etc

There was a revival (?) a few years ago of this "vintage"/"legacy" logo with this odd looking sailor-capped wolverine (wolverbear?) on it. (Cynical me thought the whole thing was just to sell even more merch.)

Wow you don't read do you?

LSU or Alabama are no longer viable states for anyone to be sending students to.

There isn't an actual mascot though, it is a color, or a block M....but there is no Willie the Wolverine or something similar.

Yup. I know banana slugs well. I was referring to UCSC’s marine biology program. I did a summer marine biology program in high school and spent a lot of time on that campus. One of my favorite summers ever.
