"luxury" cars - why?

Anonymous
Because I am the “uber” mom and drive 3 kids to different schools and activities and spend about 3 hours a day in the car. So I want to enjoy myself while I do.

Yeah right

Wife and I, HHI between $350K to $500K. We don't need or want the fancy cars, but don't buy used either.

I drive a top of the line Honda Pilot, and wife drives a top of the line Honda minivan. But we plan to keep them for 10 - 15 years, and then buy similar again.

When we looked at used Honda minivans, 2 years old, with leather and top trim and less than 20K miles, there was virtually no price difference (maybe $3,000) between new and used.

I drive a top of the line car because I don't want people in business to think I am not a player. I honestly believe it would cost me money to drive the simple honda or subaru I would prefer to drive.

Because we can afford them. Is this really something you don't understand?

Whatever floats your boat. Owning an average "lease special" and having an $100K EV is not something to brag about, but tracking your own sport car on the Nurburgring, or offroading a Jeep at MOAB is something to live for.

My EV costs over 150k and goes 0 to 60 in 2.3 sec. completely silent. Currently the fastest car on the market for torque. Beats super and HyperCars that costs 10x as much. Driving it is a lot of fun. Pretty damn amazing. Look it up on YouTube even car people think it is freak’n Amazing. Tesla P100D, King of the dragstrip on a 1/4 mile straightaway. Seats at least 4 comfortably unlike super and hyper cars and perfectly good for picking up your kid from school and going to the grocery store too. Zero emissions.

Bought with cash. No need to finance an expensive toy.

I have a friend who just bought a Mercedes and I don't think k I could bring myself to do it. I know everyone's values are different but if I got a raise, I would go on vacation and save some.

I'm surprised it has taken 11 pages for someone to explain this simple concept to you.

This is why we need self-driving cars.

Luxury cars are such a waste of money. As a matter of fact, anything that is a luxury is a waste of money. I don’t understand why people go out to eat a nice dinner when staying home on beans and rice is all you need to survive. I think spending money and traveling for a vacation is a stupid idea considering that vacations are not a neccesity. There are plenty of free activities in your own area to take the family for leisure. I totally laugh at those who pay for cable in their home, smartphones (standard phone works), and anything else other than the basic necessities in life. My goal is to live on barely nothing at all, so that when I retire, I have a large nest egg that will keep building as I continue to live a frugal life and save until death.

Right. Amazing it is taking 11 pages to sink in.

Because I like cars

Just like, why do some people buy a house with a pool? Because they want one. Why do some people buy boats when they know they suck money? Because they enjoy it

Its called living your life

I dont have a luxury car, but we do have 45k net income coming in each month. If I was into luxury cars, it wouldnt be confusing as to how or why I would drive one.

Cause I am not boring or stupid.

I take the metro to work so my car is mostly a weekend car. I bought a 911 turbo at the bottom of the depreciation curve and it has actually appreciated by about 20-30% in the past 5 years. I am now looking at few V8 BMW m-series cars as additional investment vehicles.
