So there are six Nobels at UVA.

First of all, calm down It's been a trying year for all parents (I don't have a horse in the race this year)

Wrong. Buchanan was a professor at GMU with a GMU research staff when he won the Nobel Prize.

That doesn't matter, the award was to him and he takes with him. That's why UVA wanted to hire him away so it could say "we now have six Nobels". Madame Currie didn't win twice for an institution. Only two institutions have ever won, and both were not universities.

Seriously, someone explain to me, what is wrong with these UVA people. I'm reading posts with people explaining UVAs 35 sexual assault is not that bad. It's on the same level as PennState declaring Paterno the true victim of Sandusky's crime.

Please go back up a point where it is explained very clearly both in the text and in a Daily Progress article why the increase in the number of reporting of all sorts of sexual harassment is a good thing. UVA has a Clery terrific reporting history of only 35 rapes reported under Clery when it has 23,500 students. The smaller liberal arts schools (many of whom did not report these incidences to The U.S. Department of Education) have a great deal many more incidences, which is all the more shocking when you compare 79 assaults that were not reported in a campus of only 1600. It's all there. If you still don't understand read up on The Clery Act in wikipedia.

No one has an actual problem with UVA. And there is nothing wrong with thinking your school is #1 but the inability to accept any criticism is a deep seated insecurity. Every opinion is a rumor and every negative comment is from jealousy. Do you truly believe that when you leave this forum the world is secretly so jealous of your UVA acceptance? To believe that what UVA offers is the pinnacle is naive. I know this is a fact, but the wealthiest families at our private school are all the business owners (home builders/improvement, a/c, plumbers, landscapers, etc). The doctors, lawyers, etc are always kissing ass to these parents who didn't do 4 year college.

I don't have any problem with UVA but I think you do because you keep coming on this thread to bash the school. Just as you are doing right here. You could have stopped the conversation at any point you wanted but instead you come back and sling some more false allegations at the school. That's just wrong. I think the fact that you or a loved one didn't get in is the deep seated insecurity that you mention. I have no horse in this game. I'm an educational consultant. I just respond when someone says something that's so very wrong about a school that I feel it must be correctly, which I would do for my own alma mater, Harvard. And, yes, Harvard has its problems too. Lots of them.

I'm not going to address the rest of your comments because it appears you have lost control. I'm sorry you or your child didn't get in. There are many other fine universities and other options in Virginia to be explored. I wish you best of luck.

It took a Harvard alum to prove my point.

+1 lol.....she 100% proved your point. What an imbecile.

Harvard Alum has me thinking that maybe all the pro-UVA vitriol is not so much from UVA booster members but from "educational consultants" who have a financial interest to eliminate any doubt that UVA is a "lesser ivy". The way this area dumps huge amount of cash to give their kids an edge expect to see results and everybody knows the top 20 schools are a crap shoot with their less then 20% acceptance rate. UVA then becomes a more reliable goal for this area's students and so begins the marketing that UVA is the exclusive, premiere school and any contrary comments are from people who were rejected and raging with jealousy.
