UVA saw one of the smallest increases in applicants this year

No, that's individuals who had a connection at one time win Nobel Prizes but not the institution, UVA itself. Case in point, it lists Buchanan in Economics but he won it for GMU.

But the Nobel's are almost always awarded to the individuals, not to the institution. In only two instances in peacetimes have institutions received it (The Red Cross, etc.). You don't win a Nobel "for an institution". Buchanan wins the Nobel and it travels with him for life.
So there are six Nobels at UVA.

Wrong. Buchanan was a professor at GMU with a GMU research staff when he won the Nobel Prize.

Seriously, someone explain to me, what is wrong with these UVA people. I'm reading posts with people explaining UVAs 35 sexual assault is not that bad. It's on the same level as PennState declaring Paterno the true victim of Sandusky's crime.

No one has an actual problem with UVA. And there is nothing wrong with thinking your school is #1 but the inability to accept any criticism is a deep seated insecurity. Every opinion is a rumor and every negative comment is from jealousy. Do you truly believe that when you leave this forum the world is secretly so jealous of your UVA acceptance? To believe that what UVA offers is the pinnacle is naive. I know this is a fact, but the wealthiest families at our private school are all the business owners (home builders/improvement, a/c, plumbers, landscapers, etc). The doctors, lawyers, etc are always kissing ass to these parents who didn't do 4 year college.

First of all, calm down It's been a trying year for all parents (I don't have a horse in the race this year)

Wrong. Buchanan was a professor at GMU with a GMU research staff when he won the Nobel Prize.

That doesn't matter, the award was to him and he takes with him. That's why UVA wanted to hire him away so it could say "we now have six Nobels". Madame Currie didn't win twice for an institution. Only two institutions have ever won, and both were not universities.

Seriously, someone explain to me, what is wrong with these UVA people. I'm reading posts with people explaining UVAs 35 sexual assault is not that bad. It's on the same level as PennState declaring Paterno the true victim of Sandusky's crime.

Please go back up a point where it is explained very clearly both in the text and in a Daily Progress article why the increase in the number of reporting of all sorts of sexual harassment is a good thing. UVA has a Clery terrific reporting history of only 35 rapes reported under Clery when it has 23,500 students. The smaller liberal arts schools (many of whom did not report these incidences to The U.S. Department of Education) have a great deal many more incidences, which is all the more shocking when you compare 79 assaults that were not reported in a campus of only 1600. It's all there. If you still don't understand read up on The Clery Act in wikipedia.

I don't have any problem with UVA but I think you do because you keep coming on this thread to bash the school. Just as you are doing right here. You could have stopped the conversation at any point you wanted but instead you come back and sling some more false allegations at the school. That's just wrong. I think the fact that you or a loved one didn't get in is the deep seated insecurity that you mention. I have no horse in this game. I'm an educational consultant. I just respond when someone says something that's so very wrong about a school that I feel it must be correctly, which I would do for my own alma mater, Harvard. And, yes, Harvard has its problems too. Lots of them.

I'm not going to address the rest of your comments because it appears you have lost control. I'm sorry you or your child didn't get in. There are many other fine universities and other options in Virginia to be explored. I wish you best of luck.

It took a Harvard alum to prove my point.

By the way, this entire bashing began when I was accused for my negative comment on UVA to be somehow a huge conspiracy of intentionally starting all UVA bashing.

Then a snide comment about UVA vs GMU bumper sticker. So I asked about the Nobel Winners.

So again, it proves my point. UVA is never wrong and always the victim of an extraordinary amount of jealousy. As the argument is harder to win, the actual meaning is changed.

It's not playing the victim. It's just tiring. UVA is a good school. No school is perfect, but some people have a bizarre fixation with every fault.

Regarding the sexual assault numbers : UVA started really pushing students to report anything via a sexual assault portal several years ago. You have to consider that many schools still make reporting difficult and that may affect the numbers they publish. Sexual assault is happening on ALL college campuses. I'd be wary of a school that doesn't talk about it and publishes reports with very low numbers.

Zero UVA alumni have won nobels.

PP here to add. The LAC I attended reported 2 sexual assaults last year. I think they have over 5000 students right now. I had to scroll through about 30 pages of text to get to the chart showing the numbers.

No amount of tearing down will diminish the joy others feel. Remove the chip from your shoulder.

Methinks the bashing began with the original post.

Indeed it did! And, almost immediately after, I listed a number of similar posts - all posted since the RD results came out, almost identical in presentation - each bashing on UVA. Same OP I think.

Look, it’s not easy being at s school where friends and classmates are hyping up their UVA acceptances while you were denied. It’s hard on parents too. Posting anonymously with pinpricks about a venerable institution might make you feel better. OK. But trust me, UVA is in great shape. And if you are so set off by this, try to transfer in. Good luck.

Some points that parents make are: the lack of prestige in STEM at UVA compared to VT and even GMU; the dorms are old and unappealing; a UVA degree does not seem impressive outside of UVA alums. We have not visited the campus yet but it's on our list.

All wrong. Go read the sobbing of the rejected students on College Confidential in the UVA EA 2022 results and UVA class of 2022 RD results. STEM is doing just fine, thank you very much. The old dorms are being redone the moment students leave for the summer. The new ones look like hotel rooms. The new dorms been up and running for 3 years so I don't know what you are talking about. No one compared STEM at UVA to GMU. A UVA degree is recognized worldwide and in some rankings no. 1 amongst public universities in the United States, always ahead of Michigan. (and it's law school is no. 5 - 7 depending on source and year). It's been no. 1 ahead of UCLA and Berkeley recently. Here it is no. 2. https://news.virginia.edu/content/among-nations-elite-us-news-gives-uva-no-2-public-university-ranking

So what is your real reason for bashing here?

LOL at UVA being better than Michigan.

Michigan undergrad engineering — 6; UVA is 34
Michigan Business - 3; UVA is 7
Michigan law is 8; UVA is 9
The overall undergrad rankings are roughly comparable (25 vs 28)

Michigan is ranked higher in virtually every grad department.

Michigan is 21 in the QS world rankings. UVA is 173.
