Songs that make you cry/tear up

Anonymous
Same Old Lang Syne by Dan Fogelberg

When my mom died I listened to Like a River (Carly Simon), Both Sides Now (Joni Mitchell), and For Good (from the musical, Wicked) on repeat for a full year. Still make me cry.

There were other songs when I was younger and regularly experiencing romantic heartbreak. These don't mean as much as I've aged.

This Woman’s Work. Reminds me of my mom who passed unexpectedly last year. It also happened to be her favorite song.

Desperado.

That's how I am with the Moana voyager song...

Me too!! And Frozen songs too, sometimes.

Other songs that do this to me are "I hope You Dance" by LeeAnne Womack, "Sand & Water" by Beth Nielsen Chapman and "At 17" by Janis Ian. Oh, "and, "who Wants To Live Forever," by Queen

Father of Mine, by Everclear

I always think I’m not going to cry “this time”, but then this verse...

“I will never be safe
I will never be sane
I will always be weird inside
I will always be lame
Now I'm a grown man
With a child of my own
And I swear I'm not going to let her know
All the pain I have known”

...gets me every time.

Sorry to hijack the thread but omg another Jason Isbell fan! So much of his catalogue...

If We Were Vampires by Jason Isbell. Just heard it for the first time on the radio - was crying but it is an excellent song.

For me, it's many songs off of Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins. But also, You Are My Sunshine. And this thread..

Also a huge fan and Outfit is one of my favorite songs. I don't think it's sad though--just some somewhat unconventional advice from a father to a son. I think Decoration Day is sad in a very bitter and ominous way.

I agree that it isn’t sad—it just always makes me tear up. In a good way.
