I didn't realize that was a cover! |
Annie Lennox has done amazing covers, across the genres.
Love how she's all the band members in this video: |
Chrches cover of the 1975’s Somebody Else is breathtaking:
Also the Gang of Youths cover of “Why does it always rain on me?” is also ace: In fact, the Australian radio station Triple J “Like a Version” series has lots of fantastic covers. |
What a fun trip down memory lane! Two where the covers are mich more famous than the original:
Respect — originally an Otis Redding song but the original doesn’t hold a candle to Aretha Franklin’s version Girls Just Want to Have Fun — I don’t know who originally sang it, but it was a guy |
To Love Somebody- Ray Lamontagne and Damien Rice |
Rusty Cage Soundgarden cover by Johnny Cash
|
Indigo girls covers of bob Dylan, particularly tangled up in blue. |
Alien Ant Farm cover of MJ’s Smooth Criminal |
+1! Depeche Mode’s cover of “Dirt” by The Stooges |
Sound of Silence -- Disturbed
(watch them do this live on Conan -- it's unbelievable) |
You’re right. It was a singer/songwriter named Robert Hazard. Though I’m not sure I would call Cyndi Pauper’s version a “cover” since Hazard never actually released it. Just to try to find a copy you can buy! From what I can tell, all that’s out there is a rough demo. Anyway, thanks for bringing it up because I didn’t know any of this a week ago! |
^Adding all of these to my playlist
Gang of youths’ Cover is powerful |
Blinded by the Light |
What’s the best Spotify covers channel? I can’t seem to find one that I like |
Finding Bob Dylan covers that improve upon the original is like shooting fish in a barrel IMO. His songs are legendary but I hate his voice. Sheryl Crow’s version of Mississippi is amazing and the Chicks do a great live version of that. Tracy Chapman’s Times They Are a-Changin’ is great. Johnny Cash and June Carter on It Ain’t Me Babe, fun AF. G&R’s Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door, legendary. And of course Hendrix’s iconic All Along the Watchtower. |
