You'll get my vote! Let the seniors have just as many trailers as the students do. If nothing else, spread the pain. |
APS doesn't own the community centers, the County does. There's a hugely vocal contingent, mostly of baby boomers who fight to keep the community centers. Many used to be schools but APS turned them over to the County 20+yrs ago when the school population had bottomed out in the 90s. |
Then I just need to figure out what decision-making body in Arlington, VA has control over those community centers' land. I will run for that. My platform will be about working hand in hand with the school board to liquidate the community centers and turn them into useable schools again. I'm doing it. I'll bet with some digging I can figure this one out. |
Boomers make up 8% of population. Why are they running the show! https://arlingtonva.s3.dualstack.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/31/2016/04/2016ProfilePagesFINAL.pdf |
Because they vote and show up en masse to every meeting/caucus/hearing. |
Because they show up and make their voices heard. They vote, they go to community meetings and hearings. All the things that Millenials don't do. Civic activism and involvement matters, I see it in my Arlington civic association, I see it at the county level, and we see it in the national level election results. |
County board |
| Or maybe acdc |
I was wondering about this group--what is their makeup? What is their position on schools? Do we need to start lobbying them? I know nothing about them except they were handing out Gutschall flyers at the caucus which irritated me. |
|
PP here. I've figured it out. Community Development Citizens Advisory Committee and/or the County Board. I'm doing this.
I'm pretty sure that MONA could turn out a bigger contingent of voters as compared to those Boomers -- we just have to give them something to vote for. |
MONA's non political and won't let you post. |
MONA forbids political posts. You can't advocate for positions there, but you can advertise events, such as a meet-and-greet with a candidate. I remember seeing one of those events posted for Monique, and she went on to win the SB dem caucus, so... |
| Well do the Boomers have a secret facebook group they all frequent for their voting positions? I will create one like that, except for actual families with kids who care about the quality of public schools. I'll come back here and tell you about it. |
Can the discussion about the overcrowding and planned night school and mega school be posted? And a recommendation to look at candidate platforms and remember to vote? No explicit endorsements but bring the horse to water |
What boomers have is endless time because of retirement and huge wealth from real estate appreciationbb hard to beat that so we need to be savvy |
