The point is that poor people are entitled to Medicare anyhow.
If more companies and richer people bought into it the cost would go down. Also. Every year there is talk of repealing it making it impossible for companies to invest long term in reducing costs. It's part of the game to break the system |
You are obviously a Hillary supporter and that's why you don't understand the problem. As reported so eloquently upthread, Obamacare has enabled medical care for the poor while disabling it for the middle class. I, for example, am skipping medical treatments and tests for the first time in my life, and now I am the one who feels poor! This despite taking six years to get through college because I worked half-time, a lifetime of hard work after that, and religiously buying health insurance. Let me simplify it for you. Let's say you have a job and eat three meals a day with the money you earn. But there's a poor person who is only getting enough food stamps paid for by you and other taxpayers to eat once a day. She's hungry, and you're not. So the government sets up a program that results in the costs of your meals going up so much that now you can only eat once a day, and gives extra aid to the poor so they can now eat three times a day. |
I think you meant Medicaid....not Medicare. And what is your definition of "richer" people? 200k? 300k? You think they're going to buy into a crap program like Medicaid, where it's tough finding a doctor who takes it and the wait can be months? No, they'll buy a good private plan, and the "great unwashed" will have no choice but to get the lower tier program. Its not that different from the exchanges we have now....only you'd let people with middle class (50k+) get the free junk plans. |
You're welcome. |
Mandating coverage is unconstitutional. That's why the SCOTUS had to define it as a tax. |
And, many of us believe they totally overstepped here since Obama’s team specifically said it was not a tax. Obamacare has to go. Period. |
Let me simplify it for you: Obamacare isn't perfect. It has problems. But the biggest problem with it is that Republicans spent years being obstinate about it. How the heck could anything get fixed when their entire "fix" is ending it? |
Because, that is the ONLY way to “fix” it. Republicans seem to understand something that you don’t. |
+ 1 the irony was that if Obama's team tried to push it through as a tax, it never would have passed. That's why he called it a mandate. But when it go to the SCOTUS, they couldn't allow an unconstitutional mandate to stand, so they declared it a twx. |
The period is that countries like Japan which has had a single payer system since the 1930’s, pay lower income taxes then the US. They are healthier due to the fact they see the doctor 3 times more then US Citizens, which means doctors catch issues early on, which in turn is more cost effective. The ACA would have been better if the Republicans had worked to make it better instead of refusing to support everything an elected Democratic Presudent tried to do for the citizens of this country. |
What this Democratic President did was to screw over a large portion of the citizens of this country. They knew what they were doing.... Remember Jonathan Gruber? They had to rely on the “stupidity of the American people.” And, too many fell for his lies. |
They spent years trying to defeat legislation that would devastate millions of responsible, hard-working middle-class people. Unfortunately, the liberals locked the doors on them and passed it with all sorts of arm-twisting and deals to the Dems who were holding out. There's no way to fix it, although I susoect what the "let's throw more money at it" liberals will suggsest. They'll say let's increase the caps, so people who esrn more can also become government dependent. Instead of making a woman earning $49000 pay $15000 for medical costs, let's give subsidies to people earning, say....$60k. The problem is that will drive the sky-high insurance policies on self-sufficient Americans even higher. Now the woman earning $65k, with a take-home of $50k, will have the costs on her go uo to $20k a year. There's just no fixing this mess. Let's set up poor clinics, where those dependent on the government can get free care, and allow the premiums to drop to market rates for people paying their own way. What is wrong with that? |
You know what pisses me off? The idea that you think it is the Republicans’ responsibility to “fix” something that the Democrats fu%ked up so badly. They knew what they were doing. They made this partisan mess. |
The problem is that people like me were NOT stupid, could see through Obama's lies, and voted against him. But there are too many stupid people in the country, and I'm paying for it. I cannot afford the medical tests I need, while the poor people can. If I have to sacrifice my HEALTH, they csn pay 10 friggin dollars and sacrifice one lousy meal (if they even need to). |
Yay! Seems I'm in the company of some smart Republicans. The Democrats set up a policy doomed to fail and then blame the Republicans for not solving their mess. BTW, this was a classic Alinsky move, and both Obama and Queen Hillary were rapid followers. (Alinsky even offered HRC a job.) if you can't get the radical program you want passed, set up something completely flawed. When it fails, then you get your radical agenda. |
