Bizarre, a top pentagon official harasses a nanny on his Capitol Hill block.

A proven criminal.

At a minimum they probably have a Zoe Baird problem (perhaps worse if the nanny doesn't have papers) and they feared that the guy was on to them. They thought it was better to catch him doing something stupid and go on the offensive.

Most DC area parents have a Zoe Baird problem, hence all the bitching about not having "affordable" child care. Don't kid yourself. Your friends who say they pay on the books aren't showing you any proof, are they?

It's more than theft. It was harassment too. The family and nanny no longer feel as safe in their homes. I wouldn't either. This douche should have been arrested.

I make it a point to ask all my friends to show me proof they are withholding FICA/FUTA and have an EIN. Or I would if I had any friends left.

Do you know anything about the criminal justice system? You don't magically appear before a judge after a search warrant has been executed.

Then they should move. The bigger problem in feeling unsafe on the Hill is having some thug stick a gun in your gut to rob you at night.

No way!!! Nail in the coffin.

A longtime public servant makes a dumb mistake over a minor matter and you want him fired? Yet try to screen out violent offenders from jobs or drug dealers from subsidized housing and the liberal lobby cries unfairness and discrimination.

Here's a deal. Both groups get sent to Alaska for life. OK?

The people of Alaska haven't done anything to deserve this.

Harassment is not a criminal offense. Stalking is, and Whitman's actions seem to fit the statutory definition. But then there's the practical realities. Diversion and expungement was the most likely result. I'm curious how this got picked up by the Post.

They elected Sarah Palin and Don Young. They have it coming to them.

Dumb mistake? That's an interesting characterization. I'm not sure the nanny who was victimized or the prosecutor saw it that way. And do you have contact info for this liberal lobby of which you speak? Thx.

It's now illegal in DC to bar convicted offenders from public housing and shelters, but it's ok to ruin this guy's life over a note and swiping a couple of pieces of metal?

The guy ruined his own life. It probably wasn't the actual crime that got him in trouble at work.
If he didn't report it right away, then his security clearance is questioned. It's an integrity issue.

It may sound harsh to someone outside that type of system, but it's how it works.

Thats his current job. But to suggest his previous pension be taken away is ludicrous.

And won't happen. Not even close.

Oh, FFS. He's an affluent DoD spokesperson who was picking on some poor immigrant childcare worker who dared to park near his million-dollar house.

You all do know that the DC Council has been forcing new construction -whether residential or city owned, like libraries, to be limited or parking free ? This is part of the imposed greening of the city to drive us all to public transport, which they've failed to maintain as safe or appealing. These parking wars are the future. Expect more, courtesy of your local green lobby.
Ps. I dont own a car, but I don't like imposed 'choices' either.
