If this really is a kid, then cut him a break.
Son, it's good to have ambition. And as far as ambitions go, studying hard and trying to go to Harvard Law is not a bad one. But while you are doing this, be prepared to grow. When you go to college, you will probably get to know many gay people. You will probably get a lot of exposure to other countries. And although there is less of a chance, you may evolve on abortion. So by the time you are an adult, you may not be looking for an English speaking, anti-abortion country that does not permit gay marriage or whatever it is you are thinking. In fact you might decide along the way that elected office isn't your thing anymore. Lots of young people think about being a Congressman or even President, but few actually do it. That's OK. Having a dream is not bad. But being unwilling to accept growth and change during the next ten years may put you on an unhappy path in life. |
I agree with this, but I fail to see how this answers OP. OP, one of the PPs is correct. We pay for peace. If the great unwashed was not fed and entertained on a regular basis, we'd have a violet outburst of a revolution on our hands. Who wants that? Peace and no children beggars on the streets. |
