all of the people making 250k, 300k, 500k - what do you do?!

I'm in IT and own a small software company. I make $700-800k/yr and work 35/hrs/week. I structure my work so I am at home with the kids every afternoon. DW is in finance and makes $100k.

My lawyer husband is 53 and makes $237,000 a year.

We make over $40,000 a year of unearned income from our investments.

These are odd salaries for lawyers of your age. High and low at the same time. Can't figure it out -- where do you two work?

Some non-GS scale agencies pay about that.

Aren't all gov't agencies on the GS scale? Confused.

No, the financial agencies (SEC, FDIC, CFTC, Treasury -- maybe others) aren't and they get paid more. That would be towards the high-end (at least at my agency), but definitely possible.

Sales and Fed and making around $300K combined in early 30s. When/if spouse in sales gets the next promotion (larger territory) in a couple of years, salary will likely bump up to $300-400K territory.

Real Estate sales - this varies, but I should make about 200k this year after expenses. 100k would be a bad year. 250k would be a great year.

When you say banker; do you work at capital one or something managing large investment loans or some kind of investment banker making trades and over the counter products?

I agree.....sales can make six figures if there is enough commission on it.

Perhaps in some good years, but not consistently year after year. Sort of like being a pro baseball player.

I think so too. Why do they have so much time to spend on DCUM in the middle of the day and make the money they say the do? I'd fire their asses if they worked for me.

Why? Because I am trapped between my high income and the mind-numbing boredom of my job as an equity partner at BigLaw.

I'm not a BigLaw partner, but I know many. I think this poster speaketh the truth.

This are solid middle class professions, goes to show that 300K isn't rich.
