I'm so glad you brought up the concept of protected classes. Who determines them? Certainly, illegal immigrants are a protected class - not only do they get benefits, they don't get deported after committing crimes. Federal laws be damned! Who has to follow those? And our veterans? Not so much - see the VA Hospital crisis.

Sex offenders are certainly a protected class. Even at the expense of children. How else does the Montgomery County Public School Systems defend keep a known sex offender on its teacher roll, sacrificing many children, including a five year old girl in the process? I'm sure you'll not believe me on this, so here's the link:

You want protected classes at the expense of little children? Taxpayers? Christians? Who else do you want to sacrifice?

Who determines protected classes? Well my Legal Beagle, I'll let you in on a secret. Once a year a committee convenes. Oprah chairs it, and the other voting members are the current head of OWS, Rosie O'Donnell, that New Black Panther with a billy club, the Indian from the Village People, an Angry Black Woman with an Obamaphone and Sandra Fluke. We were halfway through our 2015 selection process. About to establish a pathway to citizenship for Rescue Pitbulls. We were debating how to calculate the Social Security retirement age in dog years, when... Hold the Presses! Cait Jenner made her debut! Billy Jean King graciously tabled the Pitbull resolution in the interest of the Greater Good.

And that is why if you ever call Cait Jenner a "he", you legally have to pay her ten thousand dollars. Each time. Job well done, Team! Can't wait to see what wins in 2016. Oprah thinks the Pitbull Citizenship resolution will carry. But me? I think gender quotas for the NBA. It's Time!

In other words, I'm correct. Thank you.

No, in other words you are a moron and I am teasing you. Protected classes are defined in law by Acts of the US Congress , the biggest of which is the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The CRA the biggest? Sorry, protected classes, and areas of protection, added since then makes the CRA simply a starting point. "Outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion or national origin in hotels, motels, restaurants, theaters, and all other public accommodations engaged in interstate commerce; exempted private clubs without defining the term "private"

Sigh.

If you enumerate the protected classes and consider their size, the Civil Rights Act is the biggest.

Civil Rights Act:
Race
Color
Religion
National Origin
Sex
Family status

The rest are:
Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Immigration Reform and Control Act, Equal Pay Act, ADA, Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment, Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act.

Any questions?

^ Let's also not forget some basic Constitutional fundamentals, like the 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, which contains EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE LAW, for example that gays should have the same rights and protections for marriage as non-gays.

Hey, it's only the law. It's only the Constitution.

Sure...why did you add family status to the CRA? CRA covered race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Now, that is five categories...and then you come back and add 7 more. Didn't I say "protected classes, and areas of protection, added since then makes the CRA simply a starting point" And when you consider that CRA specified certain areas that were widely broadened later it further proves my point that it was a starting point.

Here is a good resource for the areas covered at this time...http://www.eeoc.gov/laws/types/
