Please don't give your elementary school child a smart phone

I agree, OP. I'm going to have a hard time raising my kids the way I want with parents giving their 1 year olds hours of screen time a day. I just hope DS can find friends who aren't boring, uncreative zombies to play with.

Not all kids who have screen time act like "boring, uncreative zombies" - my son has unlimited screen time, but that doesn't mean that's all he does. If your child can't handle it, then limit it but, as we all know, not all children are the same and there are children who have a broad range of interests.

Unlimited screen time is a ridiculous at any age. Sorry.

This is one positive for a smart phone. But there are many more negatives when a child has a smart phone: you don't know who is contacting your child, your child could end up seeing so many inappropriate things on the net, your kid could join a social media site without you knowing, your child might start choosing to know people through social media instead of in person, etc.

OP, I will buy my kids a smart phone whenever I want. If you don't like it... well... too bad. It's not your decision anymore than you would want me to stick my nose in your business.

Go hang out with OP. You can be judgmental together.

That is actually a complete negative of a smart phone. She went to "rescue" her kid stuck on a bus. Pathetic.

So, my child and her friends should be sitting on a bus in heavy snow that can not get up a hill? And for how long? The bus was there for about 3 hours.

How can the bus driver release kids to you, who are not your own?

3 hours sucks. MCPS has a procedure in place to immediately dispatch a new bus, and transfer kids. Police help with traffic in the case of accident or if the bus broke down in a hazardous area (like middle of an intersection or on highway). I'd talk to the school system about that.

This was FCPS, the kids were middle school, and all knew me. I took 4 kids in my car, and called another parent who took 4 more kids....

This was the day when school was open with 4" of snow.

I guess you'll have to stay his very best special friend forever, seeing as other kids aren't worthy of him. It's just So Very Hard to be a Super Special Very Best Parent. I am going to courier you a monogrammed hanky for discreetly wiping your tears away.

Why are you justifying yourself to internet nobodies? Who cares what they think?
