PG County Parents, where are you sending your kids to school?

My child's at Greenbelt Middle, and it's a very good fit for him.

Maryland International Day is a high performing Spanish immersion private in Fort Washington. The graduates have moved on to several top DC private schools.

My kids are in preschool at the Julia Brown Montessori School in Laurel. We are zoned for Vansville Elementary which is a reasonable elementary, so when the kids are ready for kindergarten, we currently plan to send them there. Would prefer Bond Mill, but only the western half of my neighborhood is zoned for there and I live in the eastern side. I will see if I can get them into Bond Mill, but I bet it will be hard to get two slots from OOB.

Spellman has been great for us and many other families in the main part of Cheverly. The beloved principal is leaving for a promotion within the county so we are a bit nervous about that but she has laid a wonderful foundation by assembling a fantastic staff.

Looks like we will be at woodmoore elementary school next year. We are in hopes with their TAG program it will be a good experience.

They both go to DC privates. There is no private school in the County that can hold a candle to what the DC privates have to offer. Plus, b/c PG is so *black*, the only place our kids see racial diversity is at school.

Regarding the previous post, perhaps the majority if PG is racially homogenous, but my Hyattsville neighborhood is very diverse and majority white.

I saw that cmit-north has an elementary program in Laurel, MD form K-5th grade. Do anyone know if there will be an elementary program for cmit-south students?

My daughter went to a new camp last summer. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this family owned, non-profit company also operates a student transportation business and
aftercare . They are licensed and insured and I had an opportunity to meet a few of the drivers when my child used their summer shuttle service. If you need transportation give them
a call. I am sure you will be pleased.

It is called A & K Family Learning... they are based in Bowie MD.. the phone number is 240 508-5561 email...akcampbiz@aol.com

For middle school and high school I agree and on diversity I agree...but for elementary level of academics being on par I beg to differ. Lower school K-4 at least I feel my child who attended a PG private school was equally if not more prepared than some attendees of DC privates for those grade levels. Save the DC private commute and money for higher grades.

I checked and found that CMIT SOuth will just be 6th-12th. The Chesapeake Foundation rep was very responsive when I asked the same question.

It always amazes me that parents even think twice about sending your own kids to private school. I was born in PG county and chose to buy a home here before I had kids. Now I have two and they both are in private school. If you live in PG County and you care about your kids then you send them to private school. I went to private school, some of my friends and family chose public as the best option, I can guarantee you that the private school kids had better opportunities than my friends and family in public school.

I don't even know how this is such a hotly contested debate. Public school is NEVER better than private. The government is bad at so many things why would they all of a sudden be awesome at teaching your kids? If you care about your children and you live in PG you have to go private.

What is worth more than your child's education and welfare? A family vacation, a new car, etc. the answer should be NOTHING is worth more. Your child should be your #1 investment. stop trying to justify that public education in PG is "as good" as private or that private elementary school is a waste of money, none of these excuses matter when discussing your child.
