PG County Parents, where are you sending your kids to school?

What is worth more than your child's education and welfare? A family vacation, a new car, etc. the answer should be NOTHING is worth more. Your child should be your #1 investment. stop trying to justify that public education in PG is "as good" as private or that private elementary school is a waste of money, none of these excuses matter when discussing your child.

Each situation is different, my cousin fiance went to NCS in DC. She works for the local news as a assistant producer. While I'm sure she loves her job, I can't imagine spending that much money on a education for my child to be in her late 30's and only have that job to show for it. Your telling me that she couldn't have just went to a local school in PG and ended up in the same position? There are plenty of quality schools in PG, especially the TAG & Science & Tech programs. Yes a great private school can prepare you for the world...but not all are created equal.

University Park Elementary. Great teachers, very involved parents, very diverse student body and fantastic school community. Only problem is Univerdity Park is definitely one of the pricier PGC neighborhoods.

There are also additional priorities people have around time spent in the car and at what point is it too much? So far, for elementary, I am happy with our PG public. We will see how things shake out later.

+2 Another happy family at a local PG County Public School. For elementary it is fine... my child is getting supplemental work along with being pulled out for reading & math. Middle and high school is where it gets tricky and we will most likely move to private school.

+3 We live here on purpose. My child is in his last year of public middle school, and is getting a great education, is exposed to many cool opportunities, and odds are very good that he will attend a high school in the public system.

PP, he's at Greenbelt Middle. Our neighborhood MS is Hyattsville Middle, which has an incredible music program. He and a couple friends from Hyattsville Middle played in the honors band this year and had a blast.

I have multiple kids who have gone to various privates. Sometimes it has been fantastic, other times, not a good fit. It's been very expensive and logistically challenging. If I could do it over, honestly, I probably would move to MoCo or HoCo and do public.

Went from straight A's at a Montgomery county school to B and C's in pg county. Teachers do not care and the children at pg schools are bad as hell that they become a distraction. Worse regret ever.
