My kid just graduated from Princeton. It was less preppy than her private school here in DC. Also, it doesn't have a big Greek system...in fact, the university doesn't authorize the Greek system.

Yes, I've heard Miami of Ohio is really preppy

Most state schools aren't as preppy as private ones. Miami of Ohio is a public school. Odd that it would be preppy.

Back in the 90s/early 00s, Miami was known as J Crew U because it was the zip code to receive the most J Crew packages (according to my many friends in the DC area who went there. Felt pretty preppy when I took my kid to visit last year.

If you want real prep, forget the Ivies. You want SLACs like Williams, Trinity, Babson, Connecticut, Kenyon, Lake Forest, Wellesley, Haverford, and W&L - mostly hard to get into, but not quite as likely to excite the relatives back in Korea and therefore still mostly WASPy.

Makes sense to me. Except what’s the “trains” thing?

Funny, I always thought it would be preppy. Kind of the place that prep school lacrosse players would go? But I guess my assumption is wrong. What's the true insight.

NP. The Wesleyan grads I know are all in the arts or academia and graduated in fields like theater and English. I know none of them was in a frat or sorority. Not preppy at all. They describe Wesleyan as artsy and funky - certainly they knew and hung out with, as PP puts it, the opposite of preppy.

Wesleyan just won the NCAA national lacrosse championship.....it has a healthy contingent of prep school grads but also loves its eclectic student body.

You mean the weird ones?

Wesleyan is a great college, but not preppy. Lots of private school graduates, but granola.

Why did you respond to a 6 year old post on an 11 year old thread?!?!

LOL. This is the oldest thread I’ve ever seen. The OPs kid is now 28 or 29.

Its a lottery if she gets in an Ivy school but it would be tougher to get into one of her choice to suit her ideal prep life.

This^ and its a waste of an intellectually curious mind to do so.

Bucknell is better for janitorial work on the street. Not much else. Stop perpetuating this nonsense.

Amazing!

Bucknell is a good option.

I haven't seen any colleges that seem preppy recently. I think things have moved on.
