Preppiest colleges?

Why was this very old thread reopened?

Most of the NESCACs don't have greek life.

OP, how do you/your DD define true prep? Intellectual or lifestyle/clothing? The old time preppy colleges have gotten to be pretty competitive/nerdy and not very preppy. A lot of people who consider themselves preppy, but not in an intellectual way, go to southern schools with big greek life. Posters have listed the relatively short list of schools that have both.

Try not to refer to a school as “weird,” please.

This thread is from 2013 - I’m assuming OP’s kid found a college by now!

Funny, I always thought it would be preppy. Kind of the place that prep school lacrosse players would go? But I guess my assumption is wrong. What's the true insight.

NP. The Wesleyan grads I know are all in the arts or academia and graduated in fields like theater and English. I know none of them was in a frat or sorority. Not preppy at all. They describe Wesleyan as artsy and funky - certainly they knew and hung out with, as PP puts it, the opposite of preppy.

Wesleyan just won the NCAA national lacrosse championship.....it has a healthy contingent of prep school grads but also loves its eclectic student body.

And graduated.

I haven’t read through this thread and have to assume that it’s already been mentioned several times, but UVA has always had the reputation for being Uber preppy.

Wesleyan is a great college, but not preppy. Lots of private school graduates, but granola.

Granola has replaced preppy at so many colleges. This generation doesn’t really have the same version of preppy that used to exist.

GPA is too low for UVA. That's the bottom 25th percentile of the class. OK if URM or otherwise hooked but probably a no go IRL

Preppy is a style OP; it doesn't mean Greek. Google it
