Do you allow your child to miss school "just because"?

It is an unexcused absence, per FCPS:

Classifying Excused & Unexcused Absences:

•Reasons for excused absences include: illness of the student, death in the family, doctor or dentist appointment, observance of a religious holiday, suspension (except for certain violations as provided in Regulation 2601), or another reason acceptable to the principal or her/his designee.
•Reasons for unexcused absences include: family and/or student vacations, child care situations, non-school related activities, missed school bus, traffic or car problems, any absence for which the parent or guardian does not have prior knowledge, consent and/or legitimate reason, or other reasons unacceptable to the principal or her/his designee.

If you're so gung-ho about allowing your child to skip school for fun, let the school know and be honest about it.

Of course...infrequently...but once in awhile as a treat. My parents always wanted us to experience life outside of school and once awhile we all took off. I graduated as valedictorian from my class so it didn't do me any harm and I have an amazing relationship with my folks.
