"Isn't Spain an Hispanic country? "

Spain is the origin of Hispanic-meaning of Spanish decent. Most people are speaking of Latinos when they use the term Hispanic. (from Central and South American Spanish speaking countries).

My husband is Spanish and both our kids are blond hair(Rubio) blue eyed. They look Swedish. It doesn't make sense that they would qualified as minority disadvantaged, but we can't afford not to take advantage of any opportunity we can. We don't mke the rules, we just play the game.

My husband gets pretty angry at the thought that his kids are less "Hispanic" because they don't fit a dark skinned profile.

Wow. Read that back. You're angry why? You detest a distinction that you'll gladly use when it serves your purpose? Ok, got it. But I'd cut back on the vitriol.

According to all relevant definitions (OMB, US Census), people of Spanish or Portuguese European descent are included in the Hispanic or Latino group.

Really? Can't find this. Thinking I could have been Ivy League as a Hispanic!

This is 1:07. I was reading old threads because I'm in the process now, and came upon this post, which I liked until I realized I wrote it. I'm sorry you disagree, but I still feel exactly the same way. I guess I'm just not as competitive as most of the DCUM crowd.

DC is leading the way through this process, and it's working as planned. I'm helping with research, and driving to visit schools. I wouldn't dream of hiring a coach, and DC isn't doing test prep. DC did great on the PSAT, so I'm not bothering.

BTW, I'm in my late 40s. I applied to 4 schools: two Ivies, one SLAC and my safety was the U of C. I was accepted at U of C based on the interview. The admissions officer called my dad and told him I was in, but I went to an Ivy. U of C may have been selective then, but nowhere near as selective as it is now.

God, this started out as a great thread and turned into total DCUM crap! How typical!
