Has anyone decided to give up on DCPS and move to Virginia?

DC has everything already - no thanks on driving to Annandale for Korean food. All the DC restaurants are better than their suburban counterparts - if they even exist, since what thrives in your territory is Applebee's. And you're obviously jealous because we got into a great school and you didn't.

Don't try to deny it: if you weren't green with envy, you wouldn't still be on this board, trolling for attention and validation of your decisions. Notice how you don't see us doing the same on your suburban hideyhole threads? Yes, that's because we couldn't give less of a damn about you, your expanding waistline, and your boring children.

Buh-bye.

OK, please don't continue to post stupid shit like this. It make those of us who like DC and have cogent points to make look like idiots by association.

Didn't you know... We hate DC, could care less and never been to the 'burbs here and can't wait to get back to NYC.

So you plan to move from a dull part of PG to a neighborhood in DC with crappy schools? Thanks for sharing your insight and wisdom.

My neighborhood in PG is quite affluent with nearby shopping and restaurants, but it is the suburbs, just like all other suburbs. Just ready to get out of the scene. In your attempt to be an a--hole, you missed my point. My child will be attending a charter or private. I don't think anywhere in my post, I mentioned moving out of or into a crappy neighborhood, or attending a crappy school. I was voicing my reasons for leaving since I have lived in DC, Northern VA, and PG. As I stated, I am speaking for me, not trying to persuade or influence anyone. Just sharing my experience ....

Upper 16th St. is very pretty, I am sure you will enjoy living there. From what I read, many years ago it used to be the neighborhood for upperclass AA families before they fled DC. The area is quite suburban in its feel in that it is miles away from restaurants, bars, libraries and other urban delights. You do have downtown Silver Spring in easy driving distance, or Columbia Heights if you want to do toward DC.

Also considering Oyster boundaries...thanks, looking for that perfect house to make a home!

It's couldn't care less. Not could care less - that suggests that you actually may care quite a lot and there is much less caring you could do.

So, take your poorly educated NYC self and go already. You won't be missed.

My child is 4. I feel with the charters and privates in the area, I can return to the city, family in tow! I'm tired of commuting, lawn service/snow removal, loss of power and cable after every midscale storm, deers, and no upscale social oulets and restaurants.

I am totally over Northern VA! I lived in VA from birth to 20, over it!!!blah..blah.blah! Just my experience, but good luck to you all that have made the move! The stages of life, and the neighborhood are major factors in this decision. I'm saying "bye" to PG Schools, and "hello" DCPS/Charter!

OK, I love that area (grew up in Colonial Village), but just FYI - you will not be escaping the deer or loss of power!

If I flee DC for suburban VA (or MD) if will be after a thorough search to determine the right school district for our children, hopefully somewhere diverse but with good programs in science, math, languages, AP courses, G&T if possible, and no gang activity.
The dark secret of the VA suburbs is that there is violence and crime out there, too. You can't just move to No Va and expect everything to be perfect wherever you alight.

Thanks for the correction. English isn't my native language although it was good enough to get me through an elite college, a top law school and an Ivy PhD. Completely bilingual at this point but still have problems with colloquialisms. Sorry I offended your boorish self.

My thoughts exactly, it's funny how people look down on you as DC resident as they claim their Fairfax county superiority... As if there aren't park rapists and MS-13 gangs in Fairfax county. To reiterate what's already been said, why the heck are all these "happy" suburb parents on a "cappy" public DC school thread?

To the parent looking at 16th St Heights, welcome!! We couldn't be more happy to welcome you. I have to say (with biase), regardless of what you hear, there are great options dcps and charter for you to explore (oyster, shepherd, Latin, Cap City, Mundo Verde...don't know how old)... You can also try your luck at a west of the park oob as your commute would be easy. 16th street is an easy artery in the city to navigate vis bus route.

Pp here, before the grammar police come out I meant with "bias"... It's actually a little sad that we have to defend our education on this site for a simple grammatical error...my biggest gripe about DCUM.

16th Street has no retail and tons of traffic. Go a few blocks east and you're in the 'hood. Head further downtown and you're back in the 'hood again:

You'll need a charter school and you'll want a charter plane - to get the hell out. It's a shame because the homes there would be nice if they were in Bethesda or Arlington.

Funny that's what I think when I see a cute house in Arlington but I think ooh how nice that house would be if it were in Brookland DC. Again, why the hell are you in a DC thread?!?

You have no f*ing clue of what 'hood really is if this is your barometer. 14th and U is nowhere near 16th St Heights - idiot!

It's not merely a colloquialism dear, it's common sense. And name-calling others because of your own careless mistakes? Now that is boorish!

Looks like somebody needs to get over herself. You'll find her in the mirror. Do touch her up, won't you? Terribly ugly!
