Has anyone decided to give up on DCPS and move to Virginia?

So if it's ethnic diversity in gastronomic matters that you want, you can find it in the burbs and not DC.

If you consider "The Burbs" as one monolithic entity, sure. But that's not the case. Yes, Annandale has the best Korean, but that doesn't do you much good in Bethesda, does it?

DC has virtually no good Korean (that divey takeout place in Mt. Pleasant is OK in a pinch, I guess). Vietnamese options are getting better, but the burbs are clearly superior. Thai options are all pretty cookie-cutter whether you're in DC or the burbs, with the exception of That X-ing in Shaw. If you think DC doesn't have a multitude of fantastic Indian and Latin options, you need to get out of Georgetown and Spring Valley a little more. You're right about the specialty grocery stores, though (again, with the possible exception of Latin).

Does have great Korean tacos from the food trucks, though. And there are few if any nice restaurants in the burbs. Sure, there are some in Bethesda, but not too impressive. The Bethesda Jaleo is vastly inferior to the original downtown.

Korean tacos are overrated, Jaleo is old news, and DC schools are underwhelming.

I am middle/upper middle class AA. I've lived in VA, DC, and MD (PG county).I have been in suburbs forever, and I am ready to leave. I am actively looking at the upper 16th St NW. My child is 4. I feel with the charters and privates in the area, I can return to the city, family in tow! I'm tired of commuting, lawn service/snow removal, loss of power and cable after every midscale storm, deers, and no upscale social oulets and restaurants.

I am totally over Northern VA! I lived in VA from birth to 20, over it!!!blah..blah.blah! Just my experience, but good luck to you all that have made the move! The stages of life, and the neighborhood are major factors in this decision. I'm saying "bye" to PG Schools, and "hello" DCPS/Charter!

Jose Andreas just won the James Beard Award for Best Chef in the US. No bad for a guy who's old news, huh?

And it all depends on which school your kid attends.

Such as? I've been uniformly disappointed any time I try a new place in Bethesda.

That has everything to do with Minibar and nothing to do with Jaleo.

And most DC schools still are dreadful.

16th Street Heights are lovely and Pepco does suck. However, I'll take the deer over Coolidge any day.

Actually, it has more to do with Bazaar than Minibar. And the press coverage of El Bulli.

DC has everything already - no thanks on driving to Annandale for Korean food. All the DC restaurants are better than their suburban counterparts - if they even exist, since what thrives in your territory is Applebee's. And you're obviously jealous because we got into a great school and you didn't.

Don't try to deny it: if you weren't green with envy, you wouldn't still be on this board, trolling for attention and validation of your decisions. Notice how you don't see us doing the same on your suburban hideyhole threads? Yes, that's because we couldn't give less of a damn about you, your expanding waistline, and your boring children.

Buh-bye.

...get back with me on that once the deer jumps out and hit your car, and eat every flower or plant in your yard...laughing at my comment, but true! Once again, this is just my experience having lived in all three areas and I'm sharing, not trying to persuade a decision one way or the other..

OK, please don't continue to post stupid shit like this. It make those of us who like DC and have cogent points to make look like idiots by association.
