You obviously know nothing. We have been promised construction and refresh of the high school for years. I heard about it when my kids were in elementary school in 2009. They're now both about to finish college. Wootton was supposed to be refreshed when my older child was a freshman, which was in 2017. The school board kept on delaying it. So they caused the obsolescence and then used it as an excuse.

Many of us were promised many things and it hasn't happened. Right now, there is a brand new building near you, you are saying that the school facility is terrible so why wouldn't you want it. You don't even have kids that will be impacted by this. Your kids are adults.

. Why would the board close a school that has consistently been one of the top 10 schools in the nation. That's why housing prices were high. People wanted to move to this area to go to that school. Housing prices reflected that. So thanks to the Board of Education. The value of my house just dropped.

This here is the real concern for Wootton parents. I can own it. I wish more Wootton parents would. It stinks that we scrimped to live in a dumpy and dark 1970s home just so our kids could attend. But I also recognize that a school boundary isn’t forever and the BOE has no obligation to consider my property values when determining boundaries. The fact is DH and I can’t afford to live in Crown. The kids from Crown are not bringing anybody down. For that matter, the kids who are FARMS are zero threat. I think Crown will still be a strong school.

The fact that property values will go down is just a simple fact. That is the reality of real estate. Since Montgomery County is 80% Liberal, the question is why are people going to pay less for homes near Wootton? Perhaps they aren't as Liberal as they claim to be?

And Frost and Fallsmead teachers? This doesn’t impact them at all.

Strange take.

Not a strange take - this is what grasping at straws looks like.

Because Wootton does have strong relationships with Frost and Fallsmead. They are also walkable to one another. This will be lost with the move to Crown.

I’m against recommendation, but as someone who spent three years being bussed from Stone Mill to Cabin John, spare me. Cabin John wasn’t right next to a high school, and that affected my education to no degree whatsoever. It’s also significantly farther from SMES to CJMS than Frost or Fallsmead is to Crown. Arguing about a “special relationship” between Wootton and Frost is the weakest part of our argument against H. Get out of the Fallsmead bubble. This is what gets our cause labeled as whining. Focus on the real issues.

At least you got a bus. Some of us have to drive our kids.

I’m with ya that Wootton housing prices are so high because people want to send their kids to a top high school. But I’m lost as to how your house just dropped when you’re still in that Wootton district?

It is not the same school. They are losing Cold Spring ES (super low FARMS) to Churchill and gaining Fields Rd ES (high FARMS) It will not be Wootton Patriots on Wootton Parkway. It will be Crien High school mikes away.

And even still, people paid to live in neighborhoods that had 3 walkable schools. High achieving schools. I don’t think that should be a reason not to move a school.

but I can understand those that are upset that the county wasted millions and millions of dollars building a school. Wasted more millions on boundary studies and setting up 7 options to the public to help alleviate over capacities at so many schools. Only to throw in an 8th option last minute and pick it. Such a dirty crappy thing to do to a community.

All that money could have been spent redoing Damascus, Magruder, and Wootton. We all know there was a ton of back door deals and lining pockets. It’s clearly obvious they waste our tax dollars on bogus reports.

We ALL KNOW with the way the county builds and builds, schools will be over capacity in a short few years. We all know MCPS can not budget our tax dollars. We know the county is too large and money is wasted left and right.

We are now looking at a 6% housing tax increase that is supposedly going to MCPS. One of the richest counties in the country and the money is wasted on bloated administration that can’t do crap. I’m sick of paying taxes for MCPS who can’t even figure out snow days. They are completely inept.

And has anyone asked before they raise taxes AGAIN where all the casino money is going? Because we were told lies.

I would love an independent audit hired indeorndently, NOT the county. I would happily pay extra taxes for that.

Please move if you are that unhappy. Do it before housing values supposedly tank. If you are that unhappy, I am sure VA or DC would welcome you. The grass is greener there!

Is it even 100? Most parents are… out there parenting and working. There are a good number of retired looking people holding Save Wootton signs as well. Where did they get these people from?!

Bussed in from Leisure World.

I legit saw the bus for the CCACC Adult Day Care picking up Save Wootton people after the snow day protest and from the BOE office.

You’re right. It should totally be named Crien High School. You’ve solved the time problem. “Crien Cronies”! How’s that for a mascot?

Do tell, what's the major issue or is it top secret?

Not sure what they are thinking but I wonder if it's the "Asian dispersal" argument that they have been trying to use. Which makes no sense since the Asian % of Wootton is currently 44% and at Crown it will be 39%, meaning that demographic continues to be a plurality at the new school...

In 2007, the Supreme Court ruled school districts could not use race to drive boundary decisions outside of school districts that are still under Brown-era desegregation orders. The decision famously contained the line: "The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race." That decision was authored by Chief Justice Roberts.

I get we're dealing with a very different Supreme Court today, but I cannot see them wanting to re-open anything that might erode that precedent. It's one of the key reasons so many of our school districts have returned to pre-Brown v. Board levels of segregation.

They are moving the entire school to a new building.

No they’re not.

Yes they are minus some changes for redistricting, like all of us are facing.

Just because you don't have this does not mean it does not exist. BOE already voted.

The lawsuit isn’t focused on that factor. It’s focused on the process and policy compliance. You may think things will end up the same as where we are today - and that might be the case - but violations of process and policy shouldn’t be ignored simply because you agree with the outcome. If that were the case, then you have no right to complain about any politician breaking the rules because someone else agrees with that outcome.

Process matters. Otherwise, what’s the point of having one? Why don’t we just let an authoritarian run things?

Not PP, and I agree that process matters. Where we differ if that I believe process was followed.

I haven't heard a credible and specific claim of a process violation. But complaints about the outcome of the process.
