Should DC apply to UMD? (and does it feel very "big")

No you don’t. You absolutely do not know “several“ kids with perfect SAT scores who were denied University of Maryland.

The poster might not "know" several kids with perfect SAT scores, but you can see these rejections in the Naviance scattergrams if they do exist.

Those are completely anonymous and Naviance only shows data if enough people apply to a school. So looking at a large scattergram of many anonymous stats, you would have no idea who was who.

You know several kids with 1600 SAT and straight As? They disclose their grades, scores and their admission decisions?

UMD is more OOS than bing in state. Merit aid is very sparse at UMD I had two kids with great stats, both got into the honors college, one was 1/2 BK and one got nothing.

The campus is beautiful, far more beautiful than many campuses I’ve visited. College Park isn’t run down, especially not with all of the growth during the last decade.

And its current rankings and the research opportunities on campus make it a very desirable school.

OP, check the school out for yourself. Don’t expect DCUM to give you clear answers. People here love elitism and they never agree on what is/is not elite.

Visit the campus and let your kid decide.
