Why is the media not covering ICE resistance in LA?

However, on a broader level, I find this entire situation absurd. The United States has become far too reliant on migrant labor, having half of the agricultural workforce undocumented. We need to ask ourselves why this is the case. It ain’t because this is "work Americans won't do". It's entirely because, for over 40 years, corporations have been allowed to exploit cheap imported labor, keeping wages for these jobs disgustingly low sometimes even below the federal minimum wage.

There are plenty of Americans who would be willing to do this work, but not for $12 an hour under the sweltering sun of Texas. Offer $30 an hour plus benefits to harvest lettuce, and you would see plenty of people lining up for those jobs. The problem lies in the fact that neither Democrats nor Republicans have taken meaningful action for decades. BOTH sides have allowed "big ag" to exploit these workers, paying pennies per box harvested perpetuating this cycle of exploitation, and doing so in such a way that if it were to ever dare end, suddenly panic, omg, our foods gonna rot and we're all gonna die of starvation because we cant afford food! They have caught you in this line of thinking, so they will always get their cheap, exploitive labor.

In my opinion, the widespread abuse of migrant labor over the past four decades is a shameful stain on this country. But, just like iPhones and Nike shoes, most people turn a blind eye to the unethical labor practices behind the products they want, so long as the price is low. Just look at OPs post: concerns about "rotting crops" and "skyrocketing prices", and not a single care about the exploitation of these workers. This has been ignored for decades and now that there's a policy threatens to send them home, we just get all up in arms because we might have to pay more.

It’s almost like saying that an economy can’t survive without illegal & low or no cost labor to farm the land. You know who else used that argument????

The Confederacy during the Civil War. Let that sink in.

Native born Americans are not up to working in the fields and slaughterhouses, no matter how much you pay. And the more you pay the workers, the higher food prices are, so catch-22. Yes, in Adam Smith's world, the conservative view you express is accurate, but that isn't reality in the USA in 2025.

Okay, sure, but then you need to be very honest about what you and the anti-ICE protesters are actually protesting for. You need to open about how you are protesting for and on behalf of BigAg. Otherwise, you are just a liar and a hypocrite.

Let us be clear: You are protesting to keep poor, vulnerable immigrants working in 110 degree heat for twelve hour days. You are protesting for child labor in slaughterhouses. You are protesting for working conditions that would horrify Upton Sinclair.

This is what you and the other anti-ICE protestors want. And that’s why there isn’t a lot of support for the protesters: because this is repulsive.

I do appreciate this angle, where MAGAs pretend to be humans that care about other humans. It’s preposterous, of course, but the effort gets you a gold star. It’s like when you pretend to be offended by an insult or threat, when that’s all that maga is based on.

I’m a moderate Democrat. Hope you enjoy your protest work on behalf of human rights abusers. That’s what you are doing, and makes you a human rights abuser too. You people are disgusting.

It’s so bad even the fake dems trolls are back.

Accurate and very well said, but the people defending the protesters here have happily ignored your post because they don’t actually care about how their cheap strawberries are processed. DCUM in general has a miserable record when it comes to caring about human rights violations that keep DCUMs consumer goods prices low.

Please? Cheap strawberries? Mc families are not buying fresh fruit. It is very expensive. You are out of touch. Just go back to crying and rounding up immigrants in your red State. Blue states don't need or want your help

I live in a deep blue state and what I see here is that most people, including those who are loud about how anti-ICE they are, care nothing for the human rights violations that get them their food — whether fresh or processed — and care everything for the prices and convenience. You are in that bucket too.

Blue state friends never cease to brag about their cheap renovations using illegal labor.

Let's not "both sides" this. The democrats have supported workers rights and unionization....remember Ceasar Chavez and how he was crucified by republicans?

The democratic party you are wistfully referring to no longer exists. Democrats are now the party of the overeducated elites who look down their noses at blue-collar workers, sneer at flyover country, and mock the middle class when they said they were struggling the last few years.

We see who you are, not the idolized version you like to believe you are.

One must admit: the Midwest and the South are indeed vulgar, vapid, flyover country.

Midwest, Rust belt, Sun belt are clean and have reasonable resources. Blue states like Portland have druggies on Main Street.

We’ve seen videos of police going up to many people without showing any piece of paper. Bystanders are seeing this and demanding the papers to ensure the arrest is legal.

IDK why I’m reading this thread. I weep for our country. Even DH who is a center-Dem called out conservative colleagues at his firm who say this is okay. He was furious.

And? Arrest warrants are almost always electronic. Police don't carry paper warrants anymore and haven't for years. And even if they did, police don't need a warrant to arrest a person on the street. They need PC. And bystanders have no authority to demand anything from police during an arrest. That's dangerous for everyone.
This isn't new. This is basic Fourth Amendment stuff. Do you really not know that?

Law enforcement MUST have badges...a lot of these guys don't, or are not displaying them. That is a serious problem and hence why people are not complying, because they think they are being kidnapped.

Can you post a photo where an ICE officer isn't wearing a badge? I have not seen this.

Why are MAGA so blind? There have literally been video after video of this.

How will they know? Most on this board are just economic migrants who are clueless about American law.

Sure, here you go. Men in sweatshirts “arresting” a student at Tufts. I’m sure your the pp re warrants. So, women are supposed to go with randos who have no badges or paperwork? This is far from only one. Are you seriously justifying this, especially with the link a few pages back if guys now posing as ICE agents for racist funsies?!?!

The officer in the baseball hat conspicuously pulls a badge out of his sweatshirt and displays it. It's hard to tell with the other guy because his back is to the camera in this footage.

Both major parties must be loving this. They need this kind of event to bolster the issue and keep people coming to them. Hard to say which side benefits the most. They both support breaking the law.

The rest of us are in mourning.

Why are you targeting migrants when they didn’t cause this problem? What about the businesses? What about consumers? What about state and local governments?

Let’s face it, you only care about migrants working in the sun because you’re racist and/or it fits your narrative.

Otherwise you would be voting for leaders who actually wanted to address these issues and solve problems. Has Trump said anything about raising wages for white farm workers? Has he said anything other than deporting people? We have a 4% unemployment rate…where are are these magical US workers?

I voted for Harris and I 100% agree she had no interest in solving these issues. I am not sure I was right to vote for Harris but I can never vote for Trump because of J6.

That does not mean I do not see the extremely glaring hypocrisy of Democrats (including all these self-congratulatory DCUM posters). None of you have ever cared where you get your cheap labor from. You’ve never marched for farm workers. You’ve never worked in a slaughterhouse. You’ve never asked your farmers market vendor if his pickers have healthcare. You are a rank hypocrite, latching on to ICE for egotistical purposes because you won’t admit that all you really care about is your continued access to cheap and exploited labor. That is what you and the anti-ICE protestors are in favor of. Please be honest.

They are wearing badges. Look closely at this video. They are in plainclothes but once they reach her they unzip their jackets and you can see their badges. I am not surprised that the video you posted cut this out.
