This is the problem with Americans, 100% delulu. You have at least 2 Europeans here telling you that everyone can't stand you and you say it's fine because someone traveled for a week there. Of course it was fine, they want you to spend your money and gtfo.

Okay, well, how do you think we feel about Europeans who come here? People travel now. They don't really care how people feel about it in the countries they settle in. It's not up to them. We don't anticipate that we'll be magically accepted, but we're living in a burgeoning dictatorship, so, you know, we're looking for options. Get some compassion.

We are a younger, non white family doing an ex pat stint and have found most Europeans to be very open to us staying and less racist than Americans actually. I am a born and raised Washingtonian and have never lived anywhere else and i find this shocking since i was sure it would be the other way around. Ppl really understand the desire to flee the USA and find it strange that we’d want to go back. I wish Spain still had their visa scheme. I will only move back b/c one of my kids misses their friends and our house. The other one is looking at intl programs and i dont think will ever move back stateside. It’s not trump per se- i think they think that American society is disfunctional and expensive.

OP - I posted here before with detailed recommendations, and your update confirms for me that you need to concentrate on coastal (Northern or Southern) Spain and (Western or Southern) France (and perhaps Portugal), and take Italy and everything else off your list. And I don’t think you will be happy on any islands so I would not waste my time exploring them now, they’ll be close enough to visit, once you live there!

To your update OP - I don’t think people suggested that you live WITH your European friends (you said all are too far from the Ocean!??), but suggested that you talk to them extensively, because they will have great personal insight into the day-to-day lives of their own country, especially politics, finances, taxes, laws, atmosphere, localized culture, and other many other aspects.
