I assure you I'm not and neither are the other kids I know who were also waitlisted despite being well into the top half of the class.

There are multiple posters. And no, I do not believe an applicant with a stellar GPA, SAT, and other credentials gets deferred from BC unless it was BC protecting yield because they knew the applicant would go to a better school. BC isn’t ND or Gtown or Vanderbilt and the sooner posters act like it the better.

It’s just the one BC hater dude. He has a very distinctive combative style. And always with the lame overbroad accusations and posts incessantly to derail every thread. The same strawman tactic: “oh you better not say BC is ranked higher than Vandy or Georgetown” (in response to absolutely no one because no one ever said such a thing — as he just claimed).

There are multiple. And it only began when people categorically denied median students are competitive applicants to BC, despite all evidence to the contrary.

Imagine paying $45-50k a year for private high school and your kids end up attending these mediocre no-name colleges, lmao.

+1

Right! Just go to public school and save $$$

It’s not about the college results. You obviously don’t get it, so stop trolling the private school board.

Name one falsehood. I promised to shut up so long as the school wasn’t compared with top notch schools like Duke and Dartmouth, and BC fans were incapable of exhibiting that restraint. Go back to enjoying your Doug Flutie highlight reel, he’s the biggest alum you’ll ever have.

Please find something else to do.

And yet they said that’s impossible at BC and you’d need to be a legacy.

No one said it was impossible, just that it was unlikely.

“You can definitely get into BC unhooked without calc and a SAT below 1500. It’s not that competitive.”

“Acceptance rate was 16 percent LAST cycle. This might be possible for a legacy but not unhooked.”

They said this scenario was impossible. Don’t backtrack the obsession with BC being prestigious.

Happy for your kid, but that was very unusual for a kid without some kind of hook. Nothing is impossible, but one has to think what is reasonably likely when making college app decisions.

The poster said non big 3 and no calculus. So think about a kid graduating from st Andrews, field or holy child, without calculus in the middle of the class - that type of student is not ending up at BC, tufts or wake even with ED full pay. Be realistic. These kids end up at great schools, but not top 50 university or top 25 SLAC. Focus on fit, ED and if being full pay can give the kid a bump. I’ve seen similar kids apply and get into well known colleges like Syracuse, college of Charleston, etc.

Baltimore private school
3.6UW, 3.7W
No AP’s until senior year
TO
Microbiology major which is one of the top schools for this major in the country (wants to be an orthodontist)
UW Madison OOS

I am very proud of my daughter. Obviously not shooting for the ivies, but this school truly used a holistic approach. Her why Wisconsin essay was actually mentioned in her admissions letter. There is more to a child than gpa and test scores. Apply wherever, you may actually be surprised.

ED acceptance rate 30%.

Anonymous wrote:If your kid was around the middle of their private, but not Big 3 class, where did they end up? My junior is getting the feedback from many people that they should reach higher, so I am curious where other similar kids have ended up.

Kid is truly in the middle of the class in most ways. Mix of honors and on level classes, highest math is AP Stats (no calculus). UW GPA and test scores around the 50th %ile for the class. Good EC's but nothing amazing.

Spent an avg of $35k per year for 12 years for kid to end up at Alabama…..it is what it is….we provided the tools and she chose Alabama….oh well.

Yea but pre-calc and a 1490 would never get you there unless you have a hook!
