It sounds like Trudeau was right, Trump is serious about invading Canada

First, yay Canada for defeating USA in hockey! I'm sure there was more motivation to win because of the tariffs etc.

Second, I believe Trump would invade Canada if he could and if this would improve his approval ratings. But it's hard to imagine the rest of the world standing by to let that happen. I'm thinking of the history books and a section on US annexing Canada - can't see it.

Right now I'm just boycotting US travel and goods. But I'd join the military and fight to my death if needed.

What did the rest of the world do during the Rwanda genocide? Russian invasion of Georgia (the country)? Annexation of crimea? Invasion of ukraine? They’ll express their deep concern.

Re-writing that. The world did and is helping Ukraine now. But a much stronger reaction to Georgia and Crimea could have prevented this. Same with Canada, no one will come to fight alongside, Canada being within the “sphere of influence” of the US, common history, same language and other such arguments…..

We're all taking it seriously.
Shoppers aren't buying American goods, people are suddenly interested in joining the military, and even Quebec is feeling the patriotism.
We all know that if the US were to actually invade, we'd fall within hours. Most people aren't willing to die on day one but we'd wreck havoc as the "51st state", which we all know would be a territory with no rights.

What do you mean, even Quebec? It's not France who is trying to invade you, you know

- French person.

You are literally the most annoying person on this website. No one cares you are French. You are obviously so incredibly ignorant about North American politics if you don't understand that comment about Quebec. Go back to France.

PP you replied to. It was a *joke*. The point is that Quebec is French-leaning, NOT US-leaning. So if the threat comes from the US, Quebec will of course defend Canada.

What on earth is your problem???

And excuse me, but I think I know more about geopolitics than you. It's kind of my job! Hence the joke...

Sigh. Don't mimic your Dear Leader and attack all your Allies.

I'm not a Trump voter and hate the man. But you literally drop the fact that you are French into threads that have nothing to do with it. You're everywhere, telling people you are French. We do not care. This is why people hate the French. And how on earth do you know you more about geopolitics than I do? What would give you that impression?

As always, STFU.

Trump likely thinks he's serious. "I want that, so I'll have it."

Short of Donny having a fatal health event, it's going to be a long 4 years. I don't see him actually taking over Canada, though. He just won't shut up about it.

I am a Canadian as well. I stumbled onto DCUM due to conferences in DC.

I have never seen such patriotism across Canada, even in Quebec.

We already work binationally through NORAD. I live in a Canadian city with American military as part of NORAD. In Canada, we protect your aerospace.

Your military can gun me down if they want to force us into a new state. There will be resistance even if we don’t have the same military might. We don’t want to be American.

Canada needs to get their shizzle together.

Canada has their shizzle together. It's Trump who is running a perfectly good friendship/partnership into the ground. Canadians are now boycotting American goods. Did you know that?

Oh, wow, Canada will show the US...

The sooner Canada gets Pierre Poilievre in charge things will settle down for Canada. Gonna happen.

I dunno. I’m from a country that just elected an elderly psychopath with dementia who zones out when he’s not playing golf — while an unelected, unvetted drugged up nutjob runs the show. I think Canada is a beacon of light - shining down on the US scrabbling in the muck.
The US has a lot to learn from Canada’s strengths and values.

You bet...those hosers better get in line with the US.

It's not going to happen. Republicans with their tariffs and their invasion threats have completely destroyed any hope of the Conservative Party of winning in Canada. Republicans have united Canada like nothing I've ever seen. Every Canadian knows who the enemy is.

That's temporary. Canada has huge problems. Obviously, not the most sophisticated group of folks, but they need to swing back the other direction. Trudeau fukked them big time.

If Trump is serious about invading Canada, then why is he wanting Trudeau to put more troops on the border?

To be fair, Trump isn’t in charge of anything.
