This comment needs to be pinned. People don’t understand the power of algorithms. Scary! |
My father-in-law stays up til 4AM going down rabbit holes of garbage fed to him by algorithms. My cousin almost died because she and her husband went down the QAnon anti-vax "covid is a hoax" rabbit hole. There are people willfully and intentionally trying to destroy America with this garbage. |
He needs to get richer so he needs to call Dumpy master |
I am neither “right wing” nor did I spread any lies about it. Whether or not Hunter’s actions or crimes are of concern is solely at the discretion of each individual/voter. I am old enough to remember front page news stories about George W Bush’s daughters drinking underage… was that news? Certainly the NYT/Washington Post/etc thought so at the time. The simple fact is that the laptop was real and Facebook censored it, falsely claiming it was misinformation. |
How did she almost die? |
And I'll just add, I'm skeptical. I dont know much about QAnon but I do remember it wasnt around when the covid vaccine came out. I double checked my math and it's true. Qanon stopped posting regularly in 2020. |
It was the scientists insisting covid came from a wet market. From the beginning, right leaning sources had concerns about the virology lab and its vicinity to where the symptoms first were reported, and were asking questions about why China was restricting so much information. So that answers question one. As for question two, it’s a matter of resources and ethics. Just as an example, it costs money to investigate animal reservoirs for diseases - capturing bats and other animals, and testing and running genetic profiles. Diversion of valuable research dollars into a pit is a problem. Secondly, there are the ethics involved of running a social media company and squashing free speech, which is the point of this thread. It was not misinformation to question the origins of covid, and Zuckerberg was wrong to silence those voices. |
Wrong. The laptop was real. The NY Post reported so. Facebook (and Twitter etc) squashed those posts and made it “misinformation.” NY Post refused to retract and was kicked off Twitter. All of this was inexcusable. Twisting this into somehow being the right wing’s fault is patently absurd. |
I agree the algorithm power is scary and frankly my issue with it is the lack of disclosure and informed consent of users being subjected to it. But that’s not really the focus of this thread. |
If it was really NBD why lie? Why did 50 FBI officials deny it? The cover-up is the issue. |
So Zuckerberg was a stupid as Jobs and wouldn't get proper medical treatment? |
You are the reason we can’t have nice things |
And the suppression of the media reporting about it. |
If "the cover-up is the issue," then I have to assume that you are equally bothered by Trump's cover up of his dalliance with a pornstar a month before a presidential election in which he was running by getting his attorney to pay hush money to the porn star to buy her silence. Or is that different ethically? |
+1 I had to create a FB account to connect with a group I joined and, by default, FB pushes a constant stream of conspiracy theories and rando AI content. It’s scary that they are doing this to millions of people. |
