Meta Bend the Knee

Exactly. Zuck is basically admitting he was censoring on the Biden’s administration’s behalf, but he won’t being doing the same for Trump.

Misinformation isn’t speech, a$$wipe.

Yes it is. It absolutely is, because who decides what is misinformation?

I’m old enough to remember when women claimed that the Covid vaccine was messing with their menstruation and it was censored and labeled misinformation.

Turned out to be true!

I saw this but honestly: does anyone under 40 even use FB anymore? For anything but groups/following their kid’s school or similar? IME- they do not.

Views are pretty entrenched in the >40 crowd so doesn’t really matter what is or isn’t censored anyway.

No you won't. You'll just think you are.
Facebook keeps the accounts and updates it regularly.
You can have a private phone number that you don't give Facebook. But if someone else on Facebook has that number in their contacts, then Facebook will put it in your shadow account.
You don't even need a Facebook account for this to happen.

You forget that Meta owns Instagram which is wildly popular with the 30-40 year olds. It’s dangerous how many false claims are made on the platform. It’s going to be the wild Wild West, especially when RFK Jr gets in and all the trad wives can say anything they want about vaccines and raw milk.

Will liberals be hating on Mark Zuckerberg like they hate Elon Musk for not going along with their censorship of conservatives?

Case in point - RFK Jrs right hand Calley Means has 300k followers and this is the kind of garbage they promote- giving babies raw milk for fevers

I'm an Independent who thinks misinformation and conspiracy theories are going to ruin this country.

I'll hate on all social media. In the early days, it was about the promise of connecting and sharing ideas. Now, it's all about disseminating lies, mocking each other, bots amplifying it all. It represents the very worst of technology over the past two decades.

Facebook has been a shitshow for a while and Instagram is only useful as far as stories go.

So no big loss.

Bluesky and Reddit are more fun.

Reddit is what “speech” would look like if progressives were fully in control.

Bluesky is pedophile groomer heaven.

I've never been on FB and feel it's one of the best decisions I've ever made! I'm also not on instagram.

I def read Reddit and look at Pinterest. I am on this, for work I look at LinkedIn but am not active posting as I could be professionally cause I hate them too.

There's really no way you connect with the world virtually - old fashioned talking to someone, seeing someone face/face or locally - that's how you develop relationships. Listserves like this and Reddit for sure can foster discussions but people who can't just text friends about nothing important or interesting are too lazy to be mine. I mean how many close friends do you really have in this world?

Other than specific platforms like go fund me or meetup and even LinkedIn, you just shouldn't need all this noise. It's too bad we can't go back and highlight the value of personal relationship development.

Agree with this. I've been way happier cutting down on social media time.

Relatedly, we canceled Amazon, and it's been really enjoyable shopping in store and much easier to not spend mindlessly.

This whole thing may turn out to be quite beneficial in the end.
