There was and is no breakup plan. Do you not realize that was a hoax? |
What makes you think Travis Kelce is going to switch positions rather than head to Hollywood, and if he did, how would it benefit the Chiefs to hang on to him at that point? |
I guess you really don’t know football. There is no “switching positions”. As explained in another post, the tight end position catches and blocks. He might be utilized more for his blocking skills as he ages. |
While it's common for receiving TEs to stick around and become blocking TEs in order to extend their careers it's unlike Kelce will go that route. For a TE without his level of fame (or his aspirations as an entertainer) a few more years of NFL salary is pretty appealing. But for someone like Kelce it's risky. Once he's no longer getting touches or scoring TDs continuing to play is a lot of risk with more minimal reward. He will have options for earning a big paycheck elsewhere when he retires so he doesn't need to play football to continue to make money. And continuing to play primarily as a blocker risks injury and increases odds of CTE when he's older. It's really not worth it. He is on the last year of guaranteed money on his current contract ($17m for this season) and if he starts next year he will be guaranteed close to another $17m in the 2025 season as well. After that he has two more years on his contract but no money is guaranteed and either Kelce or the Chiefs can choose to walk away. He's never going to make that much again as an NFL player and if he chooses to stick around past 2025 he'll be playing for a greatly reduced salary. Also fwiw the TE career Kelce's most resembles is Gronkowski who retired at 33. Gronk also had a decent amount of non-football opportunities (actually less than Travis currently has likely) and he only stayed as long as he was still consistently scoring and getting to make plays. Kelce is about to turn 35. His football career is absolutely coming to a close. |
| If by some chance the Chiefs do make it 3 in a row this year (though that’s looking more and more doubtful with serious injuries to key players even though they’re 4-0), I believe Kelce might retire. Even though he’d have another year left on his contract, why not go out on top. Why risk injury and further degradation of skills. Especially if he and Taylor are still together. |
I do know football. 35 is on the old side. Look at Gronk. |
I do know football. Kelce is currently one of the oldest. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/oldest-te-in-the-nfl-this-year |
He gets paid to score. If he ends the season with only two or three touchdowns the Chiefs will unload him. |
Nah. They's let him retire with no mention of the last crappy season. |
Like Tom Brady. |
This proves you know nothing about Travis and his relationship with Coach Reed. Under no circumstances, would coach unload Travis Kelce! It’s absurd to even think that. He signed the biggest contract for a tight end, knowing it would be his last few years. Pretty sure he talked about this extensively on new Heights? |
This. It served its purpose. |
Eh. I don't think Reid would keep him around for old time's sake. His job is to win, and if Travis isn't contributing... I don't think Travis will let it come to that. He will retire before they get rid of him. It's time for him to retire. What an amazing life, right? Retire a rich man at 35 and have the rest of your life ahead of you to do other things? Good for him! |
| I think so. Good for her. |
