But 24 percent is still more than 300 percent the 7 percent of the US that is Asian. MIT has issues going the other way, where only 5 percent of their class is black, even though blacks make up close to 13 percent of the US population. And every selective school is way underrepresented by Hispanics, who are presently 19 percent of the population.

People can yammer about test scores, which are important, but private universities remain free to construct classes as they see fit provided there is no overt discrimination against protected classes. And every elite private school wants a broad array of students that can handle the coursework and contribute to the community. It's only been one year since the SC decision so things are going to feel a little chaotic. But no group is owed anything and the universities are doing their best to make sense of the new realities. I'm sure no one is more surprised by the decrease in Asian students to Yale than the Yale administrators themselves.

Because people want to boost their chances at an elite college. It’s really that simple, and black students are the easiest target.

Nobody is targetting black students. Asians are not asking for any favors or handouts or pity. They just don't want to be discriminated against.

They went after Affirmative Action instead of legacy admits with a racist lawyer handling the case. Pretty appalling.

That's mostly because racial discrimination is illegal but preferences for the wealthy is not.

I'll tell you what, if you pass a constitutional amendment making it unconstitutional to favor wealthy kids, we will sue to get rid of legacy.

Completely ignore the entire reason we had affirmative action. It’s wrong to assume a URM took a spot you assumed was for an Asian kid. It isn’t a good look for the Asian community to trample over URM. They’re quite happy to support the discrimination of URMs.

To be fair, it's white folks bringing these lawsuits, and white folks freaking out over this year's numbers, some of which might be statistical chatter.

And also, how is this trampling over URM?

Stop begging white people to give you stuff you didn't earn and go out and earn it.

You should stop using the civil rights that black Americans fought for you to have since you also didn’t earn them. You wouldn’t even be in the country if it weren’t for black Americans.

Can we provide links like the OP did so everyone doesn't have to search for it in google

https://www.browndailyherald.com/article/2024/09/at-brown-university-black-freshman-enrollment-drops-40

As I mentioned in the other thread, Brown's Black population has nearly always been in single digits. 15% is an anomaly. There was a post 2020 surge at top schools, but 2028 numbers are basically what they've always been at Ivies or slightly higher.

Is the point you are trying to make that the percentages have not really changed, and that Brown may therefore not be in compliance with the law?

That is the point of all the college demographic threads. They need to WATCH THE BLACKS! to make sure not too many got into top schools, if too many, in their mind, that means rules were broken.

Nonsense.

Every top school wants the smartest Black, Hispanic, and Native American students in the country.

But in the wake of the Supreme Court decision, no school has figured it all out. Just checking a box doesn't work anymore. Economic diversity and great essays seem to be where universities are headed as they build their classes going forward. Sucks for the rich black kid at Sidwell Friends or GDS that was counting on checking a box. But it gives a smart Black or Hispanic kid at Magruder or Seneca Valley who can write a great essay a chance now with the more selective colleges. Everyone is competing today, With the Asians and the Whites and the rich private school kids. Applicants can't check a box anymore and expect the automatic boost. It's not a terrible thing.

You can think what you want about affirmative action but I am talking about the tone of the posts that are racists against black people.

It's not racist to black people. It's indifferent to the feeling that may get hurt by spitting facts.

Half the blacks at selective schools didn't belong there and only got in because a lot of white people felt guilty about kidnapping black people, systematically raping them and then selling their children.
If I was looking for pity from people that did this to my ancestors, I wouldn't want unearned admission to school that are out of my league. I would want fully funded financial aid for all descendants of slaves so that noone has to dropout because they can't afford college anymore in their junior year, so I don't start life with $100K in debt. THAT would make a difference in a generation for my people.

You’re the crybaby so it’s ironic that you mention feelings and being hurt. You’re crying that there’s not enough Asians in a university made by Black Americans for White people, which is very on brand considering how many Asians want to be white.

You’re clearly an Asian supremacist with a superiority complex against black Americans, but the reality is your begging for admissions to white institutions that you clearly can’t get into. It speaks volumes that even with a high test score these schools would rather not deal with you or your unappealing personalities and deal with someone else. Holistic reviews are only “racist” because you can succeed at them. It’s not a mystery why with your comment. Thankfully you’ll be complaining as you’re deported all the way back to China, Singapore, and Malaysia come 2025 and beyond. Now that’s a fact.

TBH, no one really wants kids who are just 1000% focused on academics without any sporting ability, club membership, leadership positions, creative hobbies. Asian students tend to hyperfocus on academics but it's not really what higher education is supposed to embody in the west

But then why do asians tend to have better extra-curriculars than whites?

In what way? Certainly not athletics.

Every other way.
Athletics are a different category because noone cares about athletics unless you are recruitable.

Being on the varsity squash team is no more impressive than any other club that takes a similar amount of time.
Unless you are recruitable (or at least a preferred walk -on) athletics don't matter

Of course people care. Most schools would rather have the high school quarterback, tall and strapping and powerful, over the hunched over math nerd. Like it or not, success in life is also about social skills, youre ability to make an impression, etc. The last thing these schools want is more knock-kneed geeks who cant hold a conversation IRL and spend all day coding. The member of the rowing team or the star swimmer fits the profile much better

Well Yale isn't that great at Math and other STEM subjects. So it favoring whites is not surprising. MIT, Johns Hopkins etc favor Asians.
