Yale it test optional this year plus they changed their admissions criteria to try and pick up more black and hispanic kids. They ended up with more white kids (a class that looks more like the applicant pool. |
| legacy and donor will be outlawed soon |
| So AA did not, in fact, benefit whites after all? Huh. That never would have occurred to me in a million years. |
| I spent too much time on the "class of 2028" Yale Instagram page (self reporting by the incoming students) and the students did look very white. Far more so than the other Ivies. |
It's largely a function of how they were trying to achieve diversity without looking at race. |
|
Imo "holistic" admissions favors white students because it's based on white standards for what makes for a desirable student. There's an over emphasis on being "well-rounded" as defined by white culture: sports including niche white sports, community service, eagle scouts, etc.
|
TBH, no one really wants kids who are just 1000% focused on academics without any sporting ability, club membership, leadership positions, creative hobbies. Asian students tend to hyperfocus on academics but it's not really what higher education is supposed to embody in the west |
| The gain in "whites" were all Asian or half-Asian kids who claimed to be white in order to circumvent Ivy League admissions racism. |
So... stuff that anybody can do, no matter what their race... |
That it is an “over” emphasis is an opinion. |
Yale is still test optional. I'd wait until they reinstate test required before I reached any conclusions about that. Right now Yale is trying out different things to try and figure out how to achieve their diversity goals without breaking the law. |
lol, here we go |
Hahaha amazing

But then why do asians tend to have better extra-curriculars than whites? |
In what way? Certainly not athletics. |
