We should close lowest 50% of high schools based on standardized tests and use the money to reinstate MVA. Just please don't look at the demographics of those schools.

Should? Will. Superintendent says the MCPS budget is headed for a crisis. Drastic cuts are coming. He has repearedly said to be prepared for really bad news.

Please cite a specific example of Taylor saying to be prepared for really bad news.

He said MVA isn't coming back.

But that’s good news given the program’s failure to educate kids

Why are you so hateful and angry? What is wrong with you? Or, are you one of the BOE members who is anti-MVA as you are using the funds to fund your employer, like MC. It has zero impact on your life but has a huge impact on those who cannot go in person.

You proposed closing an elementary school to pay for your poor substitute of a school. You don't seem to care who you hurt, including your own kids.

Yawn. You have no idea what you are talking about. I hope you don’t work with kids.

He said it at the mva meeting. Of course if they stopped the wasteful spending, that could fix the budget.

Why should they stop the wasteful spending? Who cares? Schools will just collapse and people will move out of the county. Baltimore City 2.0

I wish MVA people would start advocating for a statewide virtual academy like other states have. Economies of scale, it's more likely to succeed long term, etc.

Because them taking over every thread to whine and moan about losing the MVA is getting old. It's not gonna reopen as it was. There's no possible way.

There are other way more important issues facing the district right now. I feel for the kids who really can't attend in-person school due to their medical needs, but the families whose children are too scared for in-person school because of shootings and ODs need to put their kids into therapy or they will be living in your basement for the next four decades. Also? Trotting those anxious, terrified kids out to cry and demonstrate their anxieties is cringey.

Yes, that group has always been odd, but it's gotten weirder since the beginning of the calendar year. Opposing a state-run program, particularly once the local program was terminated, has never made sense. The only rational justification would be that the MVA parents want to maintain their alliance with former MVA teachers who want to go back to teaching from home. But those teachers are just going to pull the parents down with them.

The state programs are not actually state programs and not equal to the mva. They are outsourced to private programs that the local jurisdictions pay for. They don’t often include kids with ieps. I wish you’d know more about what ever you are commenting about. They cost more, and don’t have the same benefits.

You need your mental health checked. There is plenty of money in mcps to pay for the mva and more.

Ever consider mean people like you raise bullies who then bully kids at school making it a miserable experience for them? Kids deserve to have a safe environment including one free of bullies.

Why don't you say what you want instead of focusing on who would run it? There are already state-run programs offering live instruction, including to kids with IEPs. Maryland could do the same. One potential issue is that IEP teams may not agree with the parent on appropriate placement, though, if the child needs services or supports that can't be accommodated by the school in the child's home.

A state run program is NOT a state run program. You clearly haven't looked into it. They are private outsourced programs. Some have live teaching, some don't. Its also very expensive to outsource and not equal to the MVA. Most don't provide special education. Look into it before you keep pushing your adjenda. Why do you care if MCPS offers a virtual program? It has no impact on you or your children. If anything it reduces class sizes which benefits your kids.

Why do you care if the teachers would be state employees or contractors in some type of outsources program?

Look at Florida as an example. They have a state-run, privately administered, virtual program with live instruction. And they will take students with special needs provided that their IEPs indicate that virtual school is an appropriate placement given their educational needs.

Why?
Where should charter school families post?

There's a "new post" button that anyone can use. Try using a subject line that covers the specific topic you want to discuss.

There is something wrong with that person who keeps having to slam the MVA with no experience with it and give false information. Makes me wonder if they are a BOE member.

The OP asked "What has he changed, eliminated, proposed?" His proposal to create a limited-scope virtual program fits the topic. And he's been clear that MVA as it existed last year will continue to be eliminated.
