So, the Dems new talking point is that Trump and Vance are “weird”

Ha, no.

Quirky, yes.

Cringe/creepy? No.

"Dangerous" would just feed the MAGA power fantasies. "Unlawful" and "unconstitutional" are too complicated for some folks, and words like "racist" and "homophobic" definitely have their place but don't really affect people who are racist and homophobic. "Bootlicker" is too crude.

"Creepy" might work, especially with all of the time they spend thinking about others' genitals, but "weird" is good.

It’s also the description that’s going to get under Trump’s skin far more than any of these other descriptors you mentioned.

I think it's a perfect description and it will speak to certain demographics that don't want to be part of a "weird" anything....

Ehhh. You misunderstand Gen Z. Their is “be your authentic self” weird… up to the point of Ick. And Vance’s authentic self is way past ick. (His authentic self jhas also shape shifted a dozen times).

And before the right starts, because they will, people are wary of a stellar, married gay man with two kids and a funny AF husband. No one thinks America is ready for a Gen Z my authentic self uses the pronouns zhe/zha either.

Yeah, they like a family that has weird configurations, not people who think families are weird.

+1
And they have certainly excelled at this one thing.

As someone who grew up in MN, I'm familiar with people being referred to as "different." As in "they're kind of different, you know?" (ex from my hometown: a couple who moved there from out of state, military retirees, started building a big addition to a century-old farmhouse, never finished it, 10 years later it was framework with peeling plywood. Then when the husband wanted to clear some brush, he started a fire which got out of control, burned up 100 acres of woodland, got hefty fine from DNR. Then their son took on the job of manager for a farm co-op in town and ended up embezzling. These people were classified as "different." )

Saying someone is weird is a very Minnesota way of saying they are completely round the bend and should probably be locked up somewhere.
But I also agree with Walz' point that the way people talk about Trump does give him and his followers power they don't deserve.

We really do need a definitive statement.

Does the GOP really not know the difference between “you do you” openness and seething “you’ll do as I say” imposition on the most fundamental and private aspects of a person’s life?

Do they really think harmlessly high-fiving a drag queen is the equivalent of, or worse than, using federal law enforcement to keep grown-ass adults from crossing state lines?

People don’t want what they’re selling. Americans don’t like it, don’t want it, and yet these culty crackpots keep trying to impose it on us anyway. Read the freaking room, GOP. That’s why people say you’re a bunch of weirdos — because you can’t read the room, and you keep trying to insist we should want what we so clearly don’t.

These aren’t quirks. These are WEIRD people who want to tell others what to do and how to be. Quirky people are harmless and endearing. WEIRD people have harmful behaviors that hurt others. Like raping 13 year olds, or grabbing women by the pussy, or encouraging women to stay with domestic abusers. That is WEIRD.

So the GOP has been saying liberalism is a mental illness for about 20 years now, have been calling us deviants, "libt@rds", have accused us of being pedophiles, and all sorts of insane s*it, but they can't take being called weird?

Then be less weird. And don't dish it when you can't take it.

The GOP is the creepy guy from your freshman dorm who routinely asked you (and every other woman) if you were ovulating, and who insisted women were actually much happier back when they couldn’t have their own bank accounts.

Everyone laughed at that guy, but in a “wtf is wrong with that dude” way. You went to great lengths to avoid him. Now he’s trying to run the country. No thank you.

Shouting that everyone who disagrees with you is a pedophile — even sweet little library ladies! — is a definite weirdo move.

Weird… creepy… ick…

You can distill it into phony and not comfortable in his skin. I believe it’s because he’s a closeted gay man. Gay D Vance is more like it.
