Or Springfield seems to have more down to earth people?

You mean the moms of Del Ray that have "Everyone is Welcome Here!" signs in their yard but sneak out at night to vandalize JD Vance's home? Or the ones that started a petition to get his wife and kids banned from local establishments?

It's always the "Everyone is Welcome Here!" sign crew.

Everyone, unless of course you have diversity of thought.

You revived a thread from last summer.

I live in North Arlington, trust me when I tell you this happens here, too. If you're not cute and white and blonde, you're not part of the bus stop crew. Your kid might be invited to the bus stop end of year party, but you will be largely ignored.

I’ve lived in North Arlington for 25 years. I’m overweight, not white or blonde, (though arguably cute) and I have never experienced this. I don’t spend any time worrying about this kind of nonsense so maybe I just don’t see it?

It really wasn’t. When Ashburn was a small town and there were bo subdivisions past leesburg. It got weird about 25 years ago. Overdeveloped.

We used to have real farms.

I've heard that there are a lot of cougars at the South Riding Inn. Anyone verify?

Yep--it is completely different than it used to be.

Well it used to be old money and house people in LoudOUn. Now it’s everyone. No one is “trying” to be anything, they just are what they are. Eastern Loudoun isn’t even horsey anymore.

The actual horse country (western Loudoun, Clarke, Fauquier etc) has an eclectic mix of rural characters. Typically it’s the weekenders from the DC area that are putting on airs though.

I’m definitely not MAGA but the near universal intolerance that has emerged of anyone who has a different ideology (including MAGA intolerance) is pretty disheartening. Cancel culture exists and has proliferated through all sorts of ideologies. Everyone is so intolerant of those who disagree with them now.

This makes me a lot happier about my community. All of the moms are mostly Indian and most of them group together, but we still smile at each other and talk from time to time. I don’t think they’re gossiping about me or other moms! There are a few other non Indian moms (three or so) and we also chat from time to time but we aren’t friends. I try to suggest group activities so our kids can go to same camp, sport. That’s basically all we talk about. Me and one other mom who is European are the only white moms. I guess living in an immigrant community has its perks. Being super close to the neighbors can get very awkward if there is a clash. We live in townhouses so we are all super close to each other.

Where do you live? Where I live the Indian moms are definitely gossiping, it's just that you don't know it because they are talking in their mother tongues. They are also terribly snobby about leaving about American borns like me.

They can also be as bad to other Indian moms. A lot of Indian moms are lonely too.

OP, can't you find a "good" indian mom who is lonely and nice too? They are out there to befriend.

OP, did you actually leave??

Are you joking?

I'm in Del Ray and I will tell you - best to relo entirely out of the DMV.

Try Midwest or even NYC. New Yorkers are straight shooters and Chicago is a down to earth kinda town. Even parts of TX - if you are really seeking down to earth people - you do not want to be with lawyers, lobbyists and contractors. That's basically DMV in its entirety!

Avoid alexandria, do not move to alexandria. I repeat do NOT move to alexandria. It's a dump.
