Vacancies

But yet if the scores went down, the Asian community would be concerned and wanting to have a mass exodus from Navy? So now
the scores went up we still have issues. Unbelievable lol.

+1 sick of the drama around vacancies that crops up every year at the same time predictably. And cue the posts about how all the good teachers are snapped up at trans fair and in place before the summer and if your school doesn’t have everyone hired by then they are screwed. Hint: there’s a reason they are transferring or maybe they got destaffed or traded. Somehow life manages to go on come fall and it all works out.

Oh look the NAVY sub/mom returned It's not baseball honey teachers don't get traded. Life will go on....but depending who is teaching your kids-it might be a rough life. But you are correct there is nothing you can do but get those tutors ready.

Wasn’t the Navy sub/mom the one being alarmist about how many teachers were quitting? It was some other non sub mom trying to act like all the vacancies were no big deal.

None of us will know how bad or not bad things are until next school year.

Correct, that’s why there is no point in stressing now. Enjoy your summer! But in the meantime, bask in the fact that the SOL scores at this school shot up tremendously under the new principal.

How do you know all SOL scores went up? Only a subset were listed.

You sound batsh*t.

Now don't you think that is kind of an extreme? What is wrong with stating the obvious? Get over yourself.

What is with you and the Asians? You sound ignorant. Are you jealous that they put such importance on education? What's it to you? Just get a grip and find a hobby and stop obsessing over other people. You are the crazy one.

Anonymous wrote:They probably didn’t mention the other scores because they are already so high so actually didn’t show improvement - they simply maintained status quo. For example, the pass rate for grade 4 math in 2022-2023 was already at 97%. Grade 6 math in 2022-2023 was already 95%. Whereas for Grade 5 math in 2022-2023, it was only 88%. So moving to 96% pass rate this year in Grade 5 math was huge. The newsletter simply highlighted the improved scores which is quite an accomplishment. But go on with your nonsense.

If the pass rate was 88 percent in Grade 5 in 22-23 they should be looking at 6th grade math this year to see improvement. Not comparing two different groups of kids. -teacher

That’s not how they look at the SOL data and you’d know it if you were actually a teacher. They do not look to see if there is an improvement in a specific cohort as the teachers change for the cohort every year. They look at the grade level data and they use that to determine what changes they need to make at grade level in their instruction.

I wonder what you’d be saying if the scores went down?

I am a teacher. You have to look at the group of kids. You can have a very high group of kids one year and a low the next. If you look at the year before they stated the pass rate was 97 percent. So having something similar in fifth is expected. I just finished a year where the grade level had a history of poor performance due to ESL, SPED and severe behaviors. I can’t compare the year before SOL grades because it was a totally different group of kids.

That makes a lot of sense.

Nothing to do with the principals....

It absolutely does. Principals lead the teachers and set the tone for the entire school and the expectations for teaching. This past year we saw some of the best teaching ever at Navy - I’m sure they were on their A game to impress the new guy. Well done!

Sure Navy mom...sure

Why do you assume only Asians take education seriously? Earlier a post was made saying let’s see the SOL scores. Well now they are out and yet we still have detractors. I’m going to have to assume something else is going on - there seems to be no willingness to accept the new principal. I wonder if it’s bc of racism.

I’m not associated with Navy at all, but it seems as though there is a significant number of teachers and parents that preferred the old principal

I’ll tell you what is gonna happen. They will get random shitheads in these slots, cousins, parents, homeless people, neighbors, acquaintances, etc. if they really need people in certain jobs. Unqualified nobodies but warm bodies to say someone is fulfilling that role. Why? Because FCPS does not give a f u c k. They don’t care about small kids and their well being. I’ve seen it happen and they sit there laughing. These hires have no teaching credentials and no training.

I’m not an administrator, but have been part of panels for various teaching positions over the last few years. The reason these vacancies exist is because there are no candidates to hire, especially this time of year. There is truly a shortage and we cannot make candidates appear. I can assure you, administrators are not twiddling their thumbs.

I think combo "beloved" principal/AP leaving was hard for some teachers/parents. Change is always hard. The new principal seems capable. On another note, I wonder if FCPS is not updating the vacancies as they are filled.
