Vacancies

Get ready for even more vacancies!

This is pretty much across the board. Not just teaching.

Teachers and IAs would come in for ice packs, band aids and often advice after being injured by an out of control student (lots of biting and unfortunately, head bumps). I’d do my thing and give first aid according to my protocol while also reminding the adult that they need to file an accident report and follow their own FCPS guidelines. Very very few actually reported their injuries to their principal and wanted me not to document care (which I could not not do) so as to keep this quiet.
Why, I’m not exactly sure.

I quit after I was repeatedly placed in unsafe environments without any support or back up.

It’s brutal out there.

This is insane.

How many staffers does every violent kid need?

Happened to check the vacancies online, far fewer than last year, I am wondering if there will be larger classes because positions have been cut.

Our school has many special programs for kids with autism, and we send staff to the hospital all the time.

Don’t worry, with the inclusion initiative FCPS is trying to force these kids into your son and daughters’ regular classrooms in the coming year or two so we can meet some crazy state inclusion markers

There are less special ed vacancies because they're "solving" the problem by putting special ed kids who were previously in separate classrooms where they could get more assistance and attention into general education, honors, and AAP classes with 29 other kids and 1 teacher. Not just FCPS, these changes are rolling down from federal and state guidance.

That is the trend everywhere.

I looked up our school pyramid, usually, there are a couple of elementary schools with vacancies, and several at the high school

This year, it looks like everything is fully staffed in our high school and elementary schools

The only vacancies advertised are at the middle school, and it appears those are just part time overflow positions. 2 chorus classes, 2 history classes, an art teacher (school has multiple art teachers) and one ESOL vacancy

My kids’ ES doesn’t have any vacancies on the FCPS jobs site, but I know they need a few grade level teachers to account for teachers who have left. I also know that due to budget cuts, they plan on having some grades at maximum class sizes. I believe that is 30 in grades 1-3 and 35 in grades 4-6.

I believe that many schools are not advertising vacancies until all destaffs have been placed.

What's the point of waiting?

If there are 40 4-6 grade teachers who were destaffed and 60 current vacancies in the grade bracket, what school is allowed to conduct outside interviews? All of them, and risk having to “un-hire” some people? Hire centrally and hope the teachers selected are the right fit for whatever schools end up with vacancies?

Destaffed teachers get to find their new home first (deadline was this week) and the remaining schools will start listing positions next week. Still 5+ weeks until new teachers go back.

Please educate yourself before spouting this nonsense. Least restrictive environment is a Virginia state requirements not FCPS.

Are you a teacher? They are piloting what the PP said at many schools next year. They are shutting down many programs at restrictive schools like mountain view or Bryant. More kids are going to be placed in mainstream classrooms.

Our SPED staff is nervous, to say the least.
