That's sad. The listing promises more professional photos soon. I think the family may believe someone would buy it and live there. I would love to see a buyer who would update it and maybe do a small reno, but I don't think that's the market. |
The seller wants to keep his neighborhood a wealthy enclave and free of the undesirable middle class. I appreciate the transparency. |
Speaking of focus: How did you get from showing the history of segregation in Arlington to six plexes and reparations? It is obvious how you got from "they (presumably six plexes) will not be bought by Blacks most likely." Why won't Blacks buy them? Are you suffering from the soft bigotry of low expectations and presuming that Blacks cannot afford to buy one or all of a six plex in Arlington. One of the wealthiest black women in the States splits her time between Arlington and Middleburg -- where she is building million dollar houses. |
It’s not middle class. It’s other wealthy people buying this stuff. They just needed the MC renters to do the developers dirty work. I don’t think a single MM project that was available for purchase is less than $1.2M |
DP. Has anything smaller than a townhouse even been for sale? Looks like most of the plexes are rentals. I’m also black and feel like MoCo is more appealing than Arlington. |
This is pending already. |
The plexes are investor owned. |
Exactly another similar lot just because available in that neighborhood and the listing says "Investors welcome." I think it was a direct reply to this add. As if they need encouragement... |
Right. I live in Green Valley in Arlington, so maybe the least desirable Arlington neighborhood? lol. These three townhome took the spot of one SFH. And they sold for 1 million. https://www.redfin.com/VA/Arlington/2136-S-Nelson-St-22204/home/172271124 |
I think the long game of the YIMBYs is that plexes will flood the market with rentals and bring the rent down. I don't think it was ever about homeownership for them. The leader of the YIMBYs in Arlington has said she will rent for life. (There's nothing wrong with renting, but it was packaged up as something to help people reach the American dream of home ownership to sell it more broadly). |
That could be part of it, some of them have turned to rentals already. I actually don't mind rentals at all and think its a good option for people, but dislike the the way it was packaged. |
I believe Green Valley has been excluded from Missing Middle, but that does not mean private developers cannot buy lots and have them rezoned to townhouse zoning. |
My friends Dad owned a house in the Hamptons. It had a large plot. Here is crazy part. He donated all the land except working 36 inches of his house to the town taking a huge tax write off on property as donated market value. It also took property off tax rolls and saved non money.
It gave him sole access to land but he could never build on it. But he could have patio set, bbq etc and fence it in. Downside he did deal at 1989 prices. Town effectively locked on unbuilt land |
Sounds ridiculous and illegal. Just admit you hate the poor. |
Missing Middle has nothing to do with the poors. Sorry that you fell for the developer-funded YIMBY marketing. |
