Here's a seller who seriously hates MM:
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/2209-18th-St-N-Arlington-VA-22201/12078404_zpid/ "*** Prior to settlement , the seller will put in a covenant to restrict the property to a single family residence.***" Kudos to this owner for caring for the well-being of their neighbors. This is a very desirable, walkable location (Lyon Village) where I'm sure a developer would love to put in a 6-plex. |
Good! |
Love to see it. “Missing middle” serves to enrich developers and nothing more. Hopefully people have begun to recognize that. |
I couldn't care less, OP. And I'm all for affordable housing for the middle class. if he can legally do it, then you need to vote to change the law. |
Agree. I'm over developers ruining neighborhoods. |
Ah yes, your home was built by...whom? |
The original owner in 1892. |
Pretty sure the next owner can remove that covenant if they want. |
This is not good, that area needs more housing and more affordable than what SFHs fetch there. |
That’s great but like 95% of the homes built in the late 19th century at least in DC were built by developers. Literally they did it to restrict any undesirables buying land and building something themselves. |
From Arlington Wikipedia entry: "In 1900, Blacks were more than a third of Arlington County's population. Over the course of the century, the Black population dwindled. Neighborhoods in Arlington set up racial covenants and forbade Blacks from owning or domiciling property.[21][22] In 1938, Arlington banned row houses, a type of housing that was heavily used by Black residents. By October 1942, not a single rental unit was available in the county.[23] In the 1940s, the federal government evicted black neighborhoods to build the Pentagon and make room for highway construction.[21]" |
And MM will do nothing to promote homeownership by Blacks. |
And it will not make anything more affordable. Developers take down affordable housing and replace it with unaffordable, multi family housing. |
Uh, that area has an abundance of housing including high rises, garden apartments, townhouses, and enough affordable housing to fill more than half of the seats of the elementary school located in Lyon Village. Sure the neighborhood is mostly SFHs (though not entirely) but the nearby neighborhoods and school zone are full of multi-family housing of every type. This isn't where housing is most desperately needed, there are plenty of options within the general area and elementary school zone there. |
LOVE it!! |
