so i’m just asking here, i see ML has a publically available roster showing 29. How many do NL and DCE have? because that’s crazy! Sounds like nothing more than a money grab.

Next Level has that many too - not all listed on the published website. Yet.

Having elite speed, size, and stick skills gets you recruited to D1. Playing in HoCo Elite does not.
Playing for a "mid" club gets you playing time and experience. Riding bench in HoCo Elite does not.
The myth that practicing against the best is enough to justify $$$ for club lacrosse is a myth. The kids who don't see field in games lose love for the game and tend to get driven out of the sport entirely. Watching your peers play isn't that fun, even if they win.
Adults have a way of ruining youth sports. Let the kids be kids and have fun. Their childhoods go by quick.

Real question for parents who've had older boys ... do the top teams try anything close to equal(ish) playing time over the next couple years of high school? it's all largely about being seen at good tournaments now and the clubs obviously know that. Do they focus on exposing their kids more than wins at some point?

29? For running time ~45 minute summer games?

I mean I guess you take what the market will tolerate, but no way everyone stays happy.

When my DS was playing they did. They knew when a coach was watching and made sure to get minutes. All played. They had a roster of about 22 and most played college most are D1

yes, there is a mindset to get everyone into the game on HS travel teams when college coaches are watching. the college coaches don't pay attention to who wins or loses when they evaluate players, and to kids who have been playing travel lacrosse for so many years, another weekend tournament win is no big deal. sometimes after players commit, they will ask the coaches to cut their play time or pull them out altogether so their teammates can get recruited too, which is classy, and also smart to avoid wear on their bodies. (and sometimes they stop coming to tournaments at all). but all that said, the habits ingrained through years of travel lacrosse are hard to break. it is in the DNA of the good players and their parents to expect never to come off the field, and it is in the DNA of coaches to try to win. So it probably won't be quite like 6U or 8U when everyone gets equal PT.

The state of play report: Well the class of 2028 played their last HOCO games this weekend and they did not disappoint - NL with an improbable win over crabs and making a respectable showing against a Hawks team which undoubtedly is one of the top 10 teams in the country. Proving that DMV lacrosse is still in the picture.

But even as NL was shocking the world, even more shocking developments were happening around our nation’s capital as reports flowed in that major movements of players between the DMV majors were being negotiated.

-3 or 4 ml players from ML are migrating to NL

- 1 or 2 players from dce are going to NL

- several players from dce are defecting to ML (shockingly including one former ML turncoats)

-DCE appears to be the big loser with no reports of name brand players going to DCE

Does this make sense from the point of view of recruiting, development or simple decency? Probably not.

can an already oversubscribed NL take on additional players? Not with out a lot of sadness.

Will this help VLC & True NOVA establish elite 28 teams? It seems like a good possibility.

DMV Lax faithful eagerly await answers to these questions and more.

I cannot be too surprised with DCE being the biggest loser out of this group. They were expected to do well in Elite and AAA in HOCO and that did not happen. So parents are going back to what they know with ML and kids and going to NL because they have friends there. This is coming from my kid and his friends, so my sources may not be the best.

I would like to know how they will be able to get kids to WANT to stay and/or move to DCE?

There were 28+ on Next Level - before the 3 confirmed from Mad Lax went there so they have at least 31 - MadLax website has had 29 even as those 3 were being removed. So I would say the biggest losers are whoever is losing their spot on their longtime team to the kids DM is poaching, and whoever would join a program where the owner has so many random players to plug in that he can throw one on the roster at the same time he is deleting someone who left.

I’m not a huge fan of DM but I don’t think it’s right to call it poaching. I assume that families are contacting him and not vice versa. Nobody who is happy on their current team is poachable in any event.
