Does anyone else hate Bethesda?

Anonymous
There are almost zero houses for sale right now in Bethesda. You search on redfin, and it's a few hundred spam listings from Paramount, and maybe a few actual houses. Please people, if you hate Bethesda, move on -- prices are sky high so you'll do very well by selling, and some of us like Bethesda and really want to live there. Stop being miserable, go find your dream spot somewhere else, and let someone else take your place!

The only decent state university is UMD and people are losing their minds kids can’t get in. VA is where it’s at.

who hurt you

No one. Just totally
Offended by the poor yet wannabe snobs in Bethesda. Some of the worst people around and yet they have no reason for it. Thanks goodness they can’t afford to live where I do.

They are the worst. They think they're hot shit because they live in Bethesda and have a 7000 Sq ft house in their 10000 Sq foot lot

Like I said, they have a good bagel shop - it’s the only draw. But, almost without fail, every trip provides a reminder of the terrible nature of those who live there. If there were farms, ball fields and country clubs north and west of DC, I would be much happier.

There are plenty of houses available in Bethesda despite this being a quiet time for the market.

I don’t understand the antagonism. It’s a suburb, the homes are fairly nice, it’s close to DC, and the schools are good. Is there some sort of reverse psychology going on where others in MoCo and Maryland resent the fact that Bethesda and a few other suburbs prop everyone else up? I don’t go there often enough to assess whether there’s something uniquely awful about the residents, but it’s hard to imagine that’s the case. Do you go after people living in AU Park or Chevy Chase this hard, too?

I just contacted a half dozen neighbors here in the bad part of Kensington to let them know that we are "less than" and that our schools are "less than." Most had already seen the post(s) and are having a good laugh on a beautiful snowy day in our lovely, friendly neighborhood.

I live in the Wyngate cluster and it’s a nice mix of people. Many internationals, many go to local private, maybe 1/4 to private school (less now that Covid is over). It’s all about the sports and activities and summer vacation in the conversations. Some people drive nice cars but a lot of people drive normal cars. It’s fine, standard UMC fare, but very very educated populace. Joe Shmoe here is the worlds expert on something…

There must be a selection bias too because you can't hate on the people that are staying home. Just the obnoxious ones out and about giving everyone a bad name. Bethesda homebodies are excused.

No actually there aren’t. You’re either looking at paramount spam or townhouses/condos. Basically zero SFHs.

No, there's more than 40. Learn how to use Redfin or Zillow please

And if you narrow it to $2.5 million and under, you're down to a much, much smaller number, nearly all of which are right next to 270 or 495.

We bought our house in Bethesda for 1.8 in 2020 and now it’s valued at $3.2. I guess not everyone hates Bethesda.

You don’t know if it’s really worth that unless you sell it. Doubt there’s been that much appreciation in four years, assuming you paid a fair price in 2020.

I believe it. The prices are insane right now, and there's basically nothing for sale unless you want to live next to a highway. Bethesda might not be perfect, but it's pretty obvious that many complaints in this thread are coming from jealousy.
