No this thread was just a delicious opportunity for DCUM to wallow in its hatred of the South and Southerners.

Admissions rate is now in low 40s.

out is state is now at 27%.

someone said easy to get into. i don’t consider nearly 3 out of every 4 applicants to be easy to get into.

my son just graduated from UT last May. He has had an amazing internship at the same company on the east coast for the last two summers. last summer he was paid $75/hr. additionally the same company is paying for him to get his masters right, plus research work now at another school (don’t care to name it and out myself). the scholarship includes all living expenses plus stipend. Once he graduates he will be making well into the 6 figures. My son absolutely loved his experience at UT and it opened a dream career for him. It was the undergrad research opportunity that ended up being the golden ticket .

we are of hispanic origin and my son never mentioned racism. I’m suprised people are so obsessed with that. We are from NoVA. i can tell you with certainty that so far he loved his experience at UT much more than how he feels about his current graduate experience in CA at a much more prestigious school.

There, got it out of the way.

Bigotry here!

A freshamn we know there that came from a pretty diverse high school said he was taken a back at the use of the N word "with the hard R" and not used ironically. He's a white boy from Virginia so maybe assumptions were made that they could say that around him?

UTK is very high on my kid’s list and this is the biggest concern.

It's a fair concern. I know one AA female who matriculated there from Florida (not Miami, but not the sticks, either) within the last five years and was shocked the casual misogyny and racism she experienced at UTK. She personally was called a B at least weekly and a C and N at least monthly (the N often in combination with the B), and heard the same epithets hurled at others much more regularly. She loved the rah rah at the school, but never felt truly welcome there.

The casual misogyny and racism (as well as ā€˜rah rah school spirit’) is real.

I’m sure you’ll find that in a lot of southern schools.

Quit pushing these old tired tropes. If you actually spent any time in the south, you would know that these are not true. All the racism is happening on campuses like Penn and Harvard.

No one has to mention it, since TN makes it clear in the laws it passes. TN hates America … do you?

It is in a red state
It is in Tennessee
It has lovely abortion laws
It is gearing up to have no rights for women to legally leave the state.
it is a place where pedos from other states get to. go an cancel their record.
It is a place where criminals also cancel their records.

It is full of white Nationalists
it is full of KKK
It is full of antisemitism
It has a ton of idiot CA people after the pandemic who moved for "my freedoms" idiots given the red legislature in Tenn is about to limit freedoms....

But hey sure pay out of state tuition to a sub par school.

Loves the downtown life. We visited on game day and it was amazing. I hope you like orange. It’s a lot of orange! My DS left wanting to go but in the end decided on a diff school.

ā€œDowntownā€ Knoxville is like a DMV suburb. Chain stores and restaurants. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

No way! UT is located in downtown knoxville which is the old part of Knoxville which is from the very old industrial times.. so has a cool industrial feel that is popular now a days. Lots of cool brew pubs. West Knox is the suberbs.
