What do you teach your kid about birth control options and STDs? |
If you believe that, you can opt your kids out of it. Nobody is making them sit through the lessons! I'm glad my kids have though, now I know they can use a damn condom like your parents should've |
I’m guessing not much… You may regret that when they end up with syphilis and an unplanned pregnancy. |
I’m sorry that your relationship with your kids is so poor that you simply can’t imagine this. |
PP, I'm so happy that you have such a wonderful relationship with your kids. Not all kids are so lucky. So, you opt your kids out of sex ed if you want, while the other kids take it and benefit from it. Not everything has to be for you or your kids. |
Why should I be forced to ban books because you’re scared your child will actually learn about the world. Suck it up and pay tuition. It’s not difficult, just work harder.. |
Why are these staunch republicans so scared about sex? It’s agenda driven to learn about homosexuality? There is a decent chance your child, or one of their good friends, is gay. Your kids will be the ones getting pregnant in high school/ college. https://powertodecide.org/what-we-do/information/national-state-data/teen-birth-rate |
The question is: what do YOU teach your kids about birth control and STDs? Nothing? |
It’s not banning books. In many cases it’s actually banning pornography. Surely you can agree that is not appropriate for public schools to be providing to students? |
LoL. Even if this is true, you admit that not all books banned are “pornography.” So why are they being banned? |
No, it’s not pornography.
|
This is why we need sex ed at school. Too many parents falling down on the job. Everyone should learn about sex, contraceptives, STDs, etc. Ignorance only causes problems. |
Anyone who says this either blissfully has their head in the sand or truly does not know the content of the books in question. They are completely inappropriate for minors. |
Then don't allow your kids to read them. That's your choice as a parent. |
You didn't read much growing up, did you? This is a slippery slope. I'm a girl and I read Judy Blume growing up. Now a popular genre for youth books include graphic novels so there are pictures too. I guess you take the male oriented POV that pictures are soooo much worse than words? As a female, I don't. Just another way of conveying a scene. Words can actually be more... er, "potent" for me and many other women, but do you want to ban words too? Should we start with Shakespeare? The books are fine for highschool students and not any different than what Judy Blume (nor worse than texts in the Bible and other books), except that a bunch of ninnies are freaked out about THE PICTURES! |
