…no one ever tell this dude about Scottish weddings. He’ll be triggered for days.

That's not a dress. Have you ever met a Scotsman?

Married one. In his kilt. Amazing how supportive people were.

Seriously you need to find something else to be outraged about. This is ridiculous because plenty of cultures have men wearing skirts or skirted garments.

Wait, do I have this right - other cultures have men wearing dresses and we should respect that but this culture does not have men wearing dresses and we should not respect that? Why should we not respect this culture when we should respect other cultures?

I got married in a kilt and have several that I wear regularly. There are many other cultures that have their own variations of "dresses" for men as well. And, if you look at photos from the turn of the century it's not unusual to see young boys in dresses.

That picture is FDR as a boy. It was not unusual for boys to not get their first haircut until 6 or 7 years old, and to wear what would be called a dress. Back then, there was also no such thing as "pink is for girls, blue is for boys."

I have a picture of my dad & his 8 siblings when he was about 5. He’s wearing a plaid jumper in it.

Did your dad or FDR ever claim to be a woman?

So…it’s ok for a man to wear a dress as long as you don’t tell the dress what gender you are? Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound?

Does this culture suddenly not include Scotsmen or U.S presidents including every single one of the founding fathers? That’s news!

Well, Scotsmen don't wear dresses (unless they're cross-dressing, but that's inappropriate in polite company). And no one said this high school graduate, or the theoretical high school graduate, was from another culture besides 2023 American.

Ok, I get it now. America sux and it's better to escape to another culture, such as female.

All one gender from here on out.

This will render trans people nonexistent, though-- proceed with caution.

Nah. Girls can wear pants, boys can wear dresses. And vice-versa. Big deal.

Right, how dare anyone think that just because she dressed as a girl all through high school and to the prom and the principal and staff and students never had a problem with it, she would be allowed to wear a nice dress that no one would see under her graduation gown without the superintendent inventing a new rule.

And it's apparently OK for men to wear high heels... right, Ron DeSantis?

Point being, ignorant, intolerant dipshits would likely call a Scotsman's kilt a dress and be obnoxious about it (right before being punched out by said Scotsman), just as ignorant, intolerant dipshits are being intolerant about what this Mississippi kid was wearing under her graduation gown. Bottom line is, we need to stop letting intolerant, ignorant dipshits call the shots.

When Ann Leckie wrote Ancillary Justice, it was not prescriptive.

To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson about freedom of religion, I care not whether a graduate wears pants or a dress or shorts or pajamas under a graduation gown. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

So your position is that gender-themed clothing is a modern invention?

Now think about the renaissance when it would have been considered the absolute height of masculinity for a man to be wearing a wig, tights and a puffy blouse adorned with lace. Times change. Desperately clinging to whatever YOU think is supposed to be "appropriate dress" in your little mind and your little world is a fool's errand.

DP You have it wrong.

The point is that dressing norms are purely cultural inventions. There is no natural dress code for genders. So take a chill pill and let people dress as they want. It doesn't harm you and it doesn't harm anyone else if people dress outside of the cultural norm. It. Does. Not. Matter.

You seem very threatened by what others do if it's different from what you do. Are you secure in your masculinity?

2023 American culture has men wearing dresses, in public, regardless of their gender and sexual identity. Have you seen a Met Ball since 2019?

The point you’re missing is this idea that historically only women wear skirts and dresses is both incorrect and also a very new notion meant to prop up some extremely fragile masculinity. Please find a new issue.
