I just looked this up and learned she threatened to toss the lovey because it had gum on it. Not b/c the aunt gave them gum and she picked a random toy to punish the kids for lying that "mom gives us gum all the time". Those kids were way too young for gum anyway. Jodie was a crap babysitter. Look, if you want to point out all the reasons Kate's a bad mom, and I'm sure there are plenty, then find better examples. Should be easy, right?

What did BFF Beth do to earn banishment? Or the rest of Kate's siblings?

The falling out with Beth stemmed proceeds from the book they wrote together and who should get credit for the book. I don't know what went down with Kate's siblings, her parents, or the many other people with whom she has cut ties.

She has four siblings! I don't think she is in touch with any of them.

I was saying one of the reasons for the falling out with Jodie was gumgate.

Someone who thinks it's a good idea to give 6 toddlers gum would probably not be a good choice for a babysitter. But in the clip it seems likely Jodie was trying to get attention by being "fun Aunt Jodie" angling for more screen time by doing wild things, like giving 3 year olds gum. Kate was probably leery of people taking advantage of her or using the kids to promote themselves, like Jodie.

I think it was more that they didn't have kids (I don't think?). Before I had kids I gave my young nephew a piece of hard candy, completely oblivious to what a choking hazard it was.

In any event, I don't think gumgate was the reason for the estrangement:
"In 2010, Kevin and Jodi Kreider testified against the Gosselins over a child labor law dispute. They spoke to CBS News about this a year prior to the trial, saying that the Gosselin children were being exploited and commodified by their strict filming schedules and insisted that laws needed to be put in place to protect underage reality television stars . . . "

Yes, that horrible Jodi, regularly babysitting for her 8 nieces and nephews (plus having her own 4 kids).

Nope. Not in touch with her parents either. Or any of the other family friends/helpers we saw in the early seasons. When the show was on, I remember playing "which former 'beloved' friend/family member/"helper" will disappear on this week's episode?"

Of course!
Beating two year olds for *checks notes* getting into potty training rewards and not napping is a place to start.

Yep, giving 6 kids choking hazards is a bad idea. Not a good sitter.

See that wasn’t hard. If you need to make a case that she was terrible use examples that are actually bad.

It was all set up for the tv show. Its no different than a teacher having 30+ kids in a classroom.

This is all so sad . John wanted to stop at 2 kids and Kate was the one who wanted IVF.

Kate said frequently that they moved to the neighborhood they did specifically because it was right by Jodi and Kevin's. That was before the TV show.

Kate is a horrible human, proven time again by all the people that eventually walk away from her (her parents, her siblings, her fellow nurses, her 2 friends, the kids that were able to see what type of person she truly is, even her DWTS partner who almost walked off the show she was so mean to him).
