That’s not what the video shows.

What the video shows is a dispute where everyone is getting upset. Whatever happened with the bike, nobody hit anyone, nobody used any racial slurs, nobody even called the police.

What IS unambiguously happening is that an internet mob is now pushing the narrative that this is a racist incident (including using racist language against her) and trying to get her fired.

I bet she is too. Fake tears make me believe she would say anything to get her way.

Of course she is! Somebody who lies about her emotions, fake crying, is probably also lying about a pregnancy. Who knows what all she lies about, and in her line of work that frightens me.

You can’t book a citibike in advance. About the only thing this video actually shows is that somebody unlocked the bike, but it’s unclear who.

only if you're not very bright. It's clear to most that he unlocked it.

Please show a screen capture proving that he unlocked it. Please also show your evidence (if he did unlock it) that she was knowingly trying to take it from him (as opposed to being confused about who unlocked it).

This has been covered several times. Go look upthread if you want to know.

Also, a normal person who is confused doesn't act the way she did. A normal person would calmly say "I was under the impression that the bike was free. Would you mind showing me that you reserved it." He shows her and she moves on. There is a bike right next to her after all. Why is it so important that she get THAT one?

There is no screen capture showing he unlocked the bike.

No one has actually proven what you say they have proven.

DP and I don’t think you’re necessarily wrong. I just also don’t think you have shown that you’re right. I’m trying to find out what’s true and no one is coming up with actual evidence for what they claim is obvious.

Because it is what?

The most likely unfavorable interpretation is that they got to the bike at the same time and she believed she unlocked it first, but he actually had. She sat on the bike and he physically blocked her from leaving. At that point both parties have created the situation that escalated with her panic and confusion. Then after less than a minute she got off the bike. End of story.

I’m following I’m following the Hospital’s Twitter feed to see if they update her employment status.

Why would they fire her over an argument in a viral video or publicly say anything? She’s in a union. Not gonna happen.

There was never an argument over who reserved the bike. Maybe at first she didnt realize it was already assigned. Once she knew she didn’t have a bike reserved, she went directly to “HELP ME HELP ME” bs stuff we know gets black guys arrested and killed.
Terrible reaction, behavior and judgement on her part.

I see a woman being physically prevented from leaving by a larger, stronger man, and prevented from scanning a QR code on her phone, which she has out. I don’t see anything consistent with a claim that she was trying to steal a bike that someone else had rented.

This is the wildest claim made by anyone in this thread. The video doesn't remotely show that and she's free to leave whenever she wants, like she does at the end.

He’s physically holding the bike.

It’s “obvious” if you live on that part of the Internet where you like to talk about “white women” and “Karens” and “white women weaponizing tears.” Hopefully now in 2023 we are past the point where internet mobbing results in knee-jerk consequences, but we’ll see.

He’s not holding her. She is free to leave. Which she does.

All you can see in the video is a second of his blurry screen. There is no obvious evidence in that video that he unlocked the bike. I’m not saying that he didn’t; he likely did. But there is zero evidence in that clip that he did.

I believe he *thinks* he unlocked the bike and of course doesn’t want her to take off with it. If they had resolved this calmly and not started filming and screaming like idiots, would not have been an issue.
