A general note to clubs about tryouts

What are some examples of the "stark difference and bias"? Just curious.

This is PPA?

No, a place in Virginia.

If a U10 kid can't make one of the top 2 teams at Bethesda, Potomac, or PPA, but is still interested in improving, would they be better off in a MSI classic program like BritAm?

We (girl, now U11) have had great luck with Classic for skills development in the U10 year! Is this for a girl or boy?

So my kid's tryouts ended Thursday. Big club with multiple teams each year. Bad news if they haven't heard anything yet? I thought it was very strange that the coaches never spoke with the parents or sent out any kind of email communication or gave any kind of indication as to when kids would hear from them. If the communication is this poor and disorganized for tryouts, not sure how it bodes well for the regular season.

Did they offer a supplemental tryout?

No. Just three regular tryouts.

Well, the good news is they might have saved you $3000. Silver lining, and all that.

Question about supplemental tryouts that are literally labeled as such… not just an additional tryout happening later than some others…

Are these only to try to fill out lowest team? Can a kid with decent skills get considered for a higher team if they only attend the supplemental tryout? Or should we assume all offers for higher teams have gone out and they would not displace any of those kids for a new kid at this point?

Related question — do coaches give feedback after such tryouts? Wondering the value of attending just to see how coaches think kid would fit into their system. Would not leave current team to join this club’s lower team but potentially interested for future…

I want to know this too.

Waiting on an offer and wondering if they are wishing until after supp tryouts to extend.

.

My kid is only 12, but based on our experience trying out with multiple clubs this season (and hearing how things have played out for friends/teammates), I’d be shocked if there were still offers for higher level teams going out at this point.

My kid asked for feedback directly (from a coach who did not extend an offer, fwiw) and got some constructive feedback. Really recommend that they learn to do this themselves.
