You declined, and then they called or emailed? Why? |
| If you turn down an offer from current club, they often want to know why. |
| Anyone still waiting to hear? |

We just got an offer for a second team out of three teams yesterday. We turned down the third team last week. The offers for the 1st team went out before tryouts and the second team went out two weeks ago right when tryouts ended.
Bad sign, right? |
Well, it means your kid was likely the coach's 20th-25+th pick depending on how many kids turned down offers. I wouldn't expect much play time. |
I mean if you want on the 2nd team good sign. I know if a female age group at a large club that has seen a significant exodus |
No, it's boys' U13. Large factory style club in VA. |
| It is naive to think that if the kid works on skills & fitness independently, they can earn more playing time? Sure... they were the 20-25th pick in May, maybe by September that improves? |
No, I don’t think it’s naive. My 2013 has had lower team friends move up mid year or guest play with higher team and move up the following year. It definitely happens, though I’m sure it’s less likely the older they get. |
Yes, they asked where my kid was going instead. I think they were just curious. |
It would only be naive if your kid is not up to it. If your kid is working on stuff on his own and you are not prodding him to do it, there's a higher chance that he can improve significantly over the summer. Kids on the top teams are likely working independently to make sure they are still at that level come August. And I think a kid on the second team who is gunning for the first team is likely doing the same thing. For sure, he should not take any time off. Find a casual league to play in over the summer too so that he can put whatever he's working on into practice. |
