It's just more pronounced at STA because there are so many kids who are Ivy legacies. Many of them are also super smart (near the top of the class) and accomplished. Those are the Ivy admits this year.

This is a bit of a generalization.

Are you staying they're not strong students?

I know of 3 non-athletic admit this year and they're all very strong students. Maybe not the very top 3 in the grade but that's hard to parse out anyway.

7 of the Ivy admits are recruited athletes and pretty good students. Other recruited Athletes are going to liberal art schools.
The rest of ivy’s are academically very strong students.
Few of them are not committed yet and making final decisions.
Multiple kids are going to U Chicago, Boston college, UVA and Georgetown.
I think overall impressive matriculation.

Interesting that "multiple" kids are going to BC and UVA. Not the norm from STA.

They could go to a lot of top schools but they need good college direction to do that and only some kids at St. Albans get good college direction. Others have no direction at all and their recommendation letters from their teachers are not even looked at and there’s no strategizing whatsoever. If you’re lucky enough to be important enough to get the proper direction you need and guidance then you’ll probably go to a top school. Many kids got into top schools from St. Albans but it wasn’t because of St. Albans it was because of the kids and the parents and families connections and legacy status. We were not happy with the college process at all.

I don’t really follow this. Who is supposed to look at recommendation letters? The CCO does help each student compile a list with schools in three categories in the spring of junior year, and that list is revisited. Is that the strategizing you mean? College counselors also seem to be fairly accessible to students throughout the process. It is true that many kids benefitted from family connections, including legacy, but that has been pointed out many times on this thread and is not unique to STA.

At other top private schools the college counselors look at the teacher recommendations. Fact. They give insight into maybe things to highlight or go into further depth on that compliment the students application. It is common practice at top privates in NYC and a few other win DC.

And how do you know this is not happening at STA? You sound bitter.

Have you not being reading other threads in this forum? A common theme has been that the results for some of the top students at Big 3 schools have been different than years past. Also, like every other selective school, BC had a flood of applications and an acceptance rate of 15% (lower than that in RD).

You sound completely ignorant. We know because we went through the college process there and asked and they said no.

If you are at STA, and decide to go to a Catholic school, it's usually Georgetown or every once in awhile, Notre Dame. BC never registered, until apparently recently. Not saying it's not a good school. I think it is. But STA is as old school as it gets, and at least ostensibly Episcopalian, though the one boy who went to BC I'm aware of is actually Jewish (not practicing if that matters).

I think you win the biggest award for the biggest idiot poster. Please tell me you are not an STA parent? That’s absolutely false. I know all of the five boys personally who are going to Boston College from STA this year and 4 of them are Catholic the one is Episcopalian. No Jewish boys are going.

If 5 STA boys are actually going to BC this year, that's either a reflection of the sole person I've known whose gone there in the last 5 years who has spread the word, or another place the college counselors have found to send the less-than Ivy kids who can't make the cut at Chicago, or whose parents think that Tulane is beneath them.

There are a ton of Catholic boys in the STA senior class. In addition to BC, several are going to Notre Dame and a handful to Georgetown. These are hardly the first STA boys to go to BC.

I don’t think any of the boys looked at Chicago. Chicago has a reputation of not being fun unfortunately so a lot of the boys won’t even apply there. BC is tanked top 10 for finance in the country plus it is in a great college town. It is appealing. Not to mention it is know to have a great social element.

Wow, you should do some reflection and figure out why are so mean and miserable.

BC is a strong academic school with a lot of school spirit and traditions, much like STA. Maybe the boys going have enjoyed their high school experience and are looking for something similar? It's pretty common for peers to infuence each other in their college searches, and once a boy starts talking up a school others start looking.

Yes there are more Catholics than Episcopalians actually at STA. There aren’t that many Episcopalians at STA merely because there are less than one percent of the population. Catholic club is largest club at STA.

I'm definitely not ignorant. Nor am I bitter, like you.
